Warner Bros. to develop a Legion of Superheroes movie

I doubt this works as a movie.

If they're determined to use a property that no one who doesn't read comics will give a fuck about going in and that has some clever, funny potential they ought to do Metal Men.

I dunno. If WB capitalizes on the Legion's link with Superman, it could go a long way to getting the mainstream audience interested: maybe a loose adaptation of Adventure Comics #369, in which Mordru, awakened in the 30th century, attacks the Legion and pursues them back in time as they hide out in Smallville.

I'd love to see WB get a Legion movie off the ground; hope they succeed!

Isn't a Legion film pretty dependent on there having been a Superboy at some point?

Not necessarily. It would be easy enough to do the Legion without any connection to Superboy. They're a team of super-powered teens from different planets who come together to protect the the universe of the 31st century. What more do you need?

Honestly, a time-traveling Superboy would only complicate the concept. Just because the LSH were first introduced via the old SUPERBOY comics doesn't mean the movies have to reference him. The movies are their own thing.

I mean, it's not like Guardians of the Galaxy was obliged to work in Captain Marvel or Adam Warlock, even though that's where Drax and Gamora and Thanos were first introduced.

Honestly I'd prefer no Superboy at all in any prospective LSH movie. He's really not needed and would just take attention away from the other characters.

The idea of them being inspired by Superman (isn't that how the Threeboot approached it?) seems good enough to me, if you still need something of a connection.

I would really like to see this done well, the Legion is one of my favorite comics concepts (superheroes and space and a band of misfits!?), but I'm somewhat skeptical. Yet, if Marvel can make Guardians of the Galaxy a thing, I believe anything can work. Just not that WB can do it.

you could certainly do a Legion film without Superboy...but i think he might be useful as a familiar face to the audience.

Not sure that's necessary. GotG worked as a futuristic comic-book space fantasy without any familiar faces from THE AVENGERS or whatever. If the LSH movie is funny and entertaining, people will go see it--and not even notice that Superboy is missing.

Remember, the average moviegoer probably has no idea that LSH was connected to Superboy in the original comics. At best, they might remember that one episode of SMALLVILLE, but I doubt it . . ..

Going back further, I suspect that 95% of the movie audience had no idea that BLADE started out as a supporting character in Marvel's TOMB OF DRACULA comic. Didn't hurt the movie one bit. (Heck, I'm guessing most of the ticket buyers who made the first BLADE a hit had never even heard of the comics.)

Who do they cast as the karate kid?

Ralph or Jaden?

Besides.

There's always Darkseid to link the two franchises, or Vandal Savage if they want to spend less on CGI.

That does make me wonder who would feature in the movie. I think Cosmic Boy, Saturn Girl and Lightning Lad are obvious, and they'd probably be the focal characters, but who else do you all think would be included? If Warner Bros. goes for an origin story I think it'd be better to keep the roster limited, and then slowly expand it in the future.

I think the cartoon a few years back had a good line up; Lightning Lad, Saturn Girl, Brainiac 5, Phantom Girl :adore: , Bouncing Boy, Timber Wolf & Chameleon Boy.

I think they have to acknowledge Superman but he doesn't need to be there but it would be cool. The Superboy thing is a non issue really unless they acknowledge Superman but use Conner/Kon-El as Superboy. I am sure someone can correct me but Kon-El has no affiliation with the LoSH but I am sure could be worked into a compelling story.

2003ish, he spent 6 months living in the 31st century.

It was weird because he was in the future for months before they explained why/how he was there in his own book which didnt seem to care that he was in two places at once.

That was 3 universes ago.
