Warner Bros. to develop a Legion of Superheroes movie

That does make me wonder who would feature in the movie. I think Cosmic Boy, Saturn Girl and Lightning Lad are obvious, and they'd probably be the focal characters, but who else do you all think would be included? If Warner Bros. goes for an origin story I think it'd be better to keep the roster limited, and then slowly expand it in the future.

Ultra Boy, or GTFO. ;)

IMO, the origin story should be of the whole Legion coming together. X-Men I had some key characters, but there was a whole school in the background. LoSH should dive right in, especially if it takes place in the future. Audiences can handle it.

In addition:

Brainiac 5
Chameleon Boy
Colossal Boy
Karate Kid
Light Lass
Matter-Eater Lad
Mon-El
Phantom Girl
Shrinking Violet
Triplicate Girl (the idea of her becoming Duo Damsel in the film is giving me nerdy goose pimples)

Supergirl could rock too.

I suspect they'll want to ditch Karate Kid . . . for obvious reasons.

Yes, I know the comic-book character came first, but that doesn't matter. For better or for worse, Karate Kid means something else to most of the world now.

Although I suppose they could rename him. Black Belt Kid? Fists of Fury Kid?

Yeah, I vote keep him even if he has to be renamed. The name is not a big deal. I included him, because the interesting thing about him is that he has no superpowers, but he's still able to qualify. It makes the Legion more interesting than just a bunch of kids with superpowers.

I probably should have included Color Kid and the other subs, for that matter, for the same reason, even though that trope has already been done in Sky High.

Odd choice to try and play off the success of GotG. Then again they could just take the name and little else. That's what the modern take on GotG in comics did. They're a team made up of Marvel's solo SF based characters. And that's what the movie's based on. DC could do the same. DC even has a couple of other teams they could borrow the name from.

Star Hunters
Star Rovers
Space Rangers
The Planeteers

Isn't a Legion film pretty dependent on there having been a Superboy at some point?

The Zero Hour Legion of the 90's was not inspired by Superboy; they were founded on a nostalgia of the Justice League. They never got around to revealing it in the Zero Hour Legion, but R.J. Brande (the Legion's benefactor) was supposed to be a long lived Martian Manhunter who had given up on heroic adventuring until he witnessed the selfless acts of the three founding Legion members.

Also it's worth noting that Legion has a tie to Darkseid who is likely being set up as the big bad of the DC movieverse.

In addition to being inspired by 20th Century superheroes this Legion will also be nostalgic for 20th Century pop music.

I reckon they will wait to see how well the proposed "Titans" series does first, after all correct me if I'm wrong but live action super heroes haven't really covered teen heroes yet have they? Well except shadow cat in the third x-men movie. Now I'm not saying I oppose a legion movie just lets try and do a local time based one before we do teens and the future in one swoop.

What? No Matter-Eater Lad? :)

I'd want to see Brainy, Triplicate Girl, Chameleon Boy, and Ultra Boy.

Saturn Girl would wipe/edit Supeboy's memories about the future on the way back to the past.

So all Superboy knew about the future was what the cute little blonde wanted him to know.

Laurel Kent's superhero uniform is basically a towel.

There was a weird thing at one point where Superboy was attracted to Laurel because she was a dead ringer for her own great, great, great, great grand mother Lois Lane.

Eventually the character was revealed to be a Manhunter in the Millennium crossover... but then so was Lana Lang, so never mind.

Ah, the early Mike Grell days. My inner 13 year old recalls them fondly.

If they're determined to use a property that no one who doesn't read comics will give a fuck about going in and that has some clever, funny potential they ought to do Metal Men.

Was almost a movie a few years back.

I think that they're trying to equal Marvel's success with Guardians Of The Galaxy by doing this movie, but it needs somebody from Superman to make it work; to that end, I recommend using Supergirl as a main character, as she was always a part of the Legion just like her cousin was.

Does Henry Cavil have a sexy younger brother that can pull the tweens?

It's weird watching Toby on Switched at Birth, and remembering that this was Smallville's Superboy.

(Weirder still back then when high School Musical mattered.)

Here's what I expect them to do, not that it will be any good.

- No 31st Century. Take the characters and dump them in 21st Century space.

- Dump the 'of Super Heroes'. Yea they may be super heroes, but they will think movie audiences will think calling them that is lame. And instead of Legion, they will be L.E.G.I.O.N.

- Dump the origin story, and start out with a large group of operatives, a true legion.

- Like the GL movie, they will believe the action will need to take place on Earth.

- It will feature Saturn Girl, Cosmic Boy and Lightening Lad (but no code names, just real names)

- They will come to Earth chasing down a villain.

- The villian will do something that transforms a normal human into a super human, who will end up joining the team.
