New or Old Klingons?

What is so wrong with Klingon society being multi-racial? (some like TOS, some like TNG, and some JJified)

The turtlehead Klingons have been around for too long and are now too deeply embedded into pop-culture for me to favor the TOS Klingons. As far as portrayals go, the Trek VI Klingons are a good antidote to the more formulaic TNG/DS9 ones.

I never felt Worf acted like a Klingon, BTW. Most Klingons shown in TNG and DS9 acted like professional wrestlers. Always shouting and waving their weapons. Worf kind of acted like a Vulcan most of the time and had no sense of humor, which I didn't like. There has to be a happy medium and the Trek VI Klingons seemed to have more dynamic-range, so to speak.

Worf had his own personality. He had grown up with the legend in his mind, not the reality. His idea of what it meant to be a Klingon kept him on the straight and narrow. He was probably just that humorless one.
He did grow as a character as the series went on. I can understand people not liking him, but I think he's great.

Calling the bumpy-forehead Klingons which came along in 1979 "new" is funny. I thought this was about their new look in Into Darkness (which I thought was a fantastic movie, btw)

This is one of the new Klingons unmasked, minus the piercing blue eyes which were added in post-production.

And here is Klingon evolution:

JJ Klingons look like lectroids from Buckaroo Banzai and their armor looks like its from an old buck Rogers serial.

The following statements contain no facts but opinion: Tos Klingons were Russians and the romulans were Chinese. It was Ron Moore who made the klingons into some pseudo-samurai in TNG. berman, lacking the talent to really evolve them, just kept the formula that worked.

Tos Klingons were Russians...

True.

...and the romulans were Chinese.
Not quite buying that.

It was Ron Moore who made the klingons into some pseudo-samurai in TNG.
Actually, Moore got the idea for an honor-bound society from reading a TOS novel about the Klingons, "The Final Reflection," which is probably the best ST novel ever written.

Berman, lacking the talent to really evolve them, just kept the formula that worked.
And yet Worf evolved just fine. The show wasn't about the Klingons, it was about the Enterprise crew.

As for me, I prefer Klingons who are more than just cardboard villains like they were presented in TOS, but less like the long-haired, biker-gang thugs that they were presented as in TNG. Maybe one day someone will do them correctly.

Old Klingons. Kor, Kang, Koloth. They were just so great. I'd also mention Mara, too, because I think she gave the Klingons a little more depth then the later TNG Klingons. Mara gives us an impression that Klingons aren't exactly what the crew of the Enterprise see them as. They're people, with families, and many of their people are suffering because the empire feels it MUST expand to stay strong and fight the Federation. It gives us some sense of the consequences of this conflict.

Indeed, i've always wished we could have had Klingons that were more and more influenced by Feudal Japanese society, or more of a Seven Samurai vibe to Klingon culture. More room for variety and character. I'm not too much of a fan of what came later "WARRIORS!!!! HONOAHHHH!!! RARRGH ARAGHHH! EVERYTHING WE EAT IS MADE WITH BLOOD AND WE HAVE ANGER AND WE WANNA FIIIIIGHT!" :klingon::klingon: It's not really intimidating, so much as it's hysterical. It makes me wonder how they got into space in the first place! :guffaw:

When I reimagined the Klingons I look the best of the look they had in TSFS and mixed with the best of what TOS had to offer. You can get an idea from my member avatar. I definitely did away with the whole savage space viking thing. Click the Klingon propaganda link in my sig to see the entire animation.

Same way Dr Who's even sillier aliens like the Sontarans got into space.

I have to wonder if the "Space Viking" thing wouldn't be so prevalent if the TNG+ Klingons just had shorter hair.

Eh? They're an army of clones. Which means someone cloned them. Someone who could facilitate their means to travel through space.

Not all Sontarans are Victorian London baffoons you know! :bolian:

The main armies are all supposed to be clones of the best leaders the Sontarans had. And given how they're all treated like silly trolls, that means that their highly intelligent leaders are all silly trolls as well.

Well The Sontarans of the Pertwee and Tom Baker eras were much more believable and savage! The recent episodes featuring them are played for laughs at the expense of the older fans!

Yeah, Nurse Strax really should have stayed dead. It says a lot about the actor underneath the makeup that he manages to do anything with this one-dimensional character and his repetative lines :(
