I guess I'll be taking The Old Mixer down to the shuttle bay to chuck him off the end.

If the Janice Lester subject gets rolling again, you'll be putting me out of my misery....

Actually, half way through the thread linked above, I'll join you in jumping off.

I know it was supposed to be a serious line and all dramatic, but when Shatner's voice switches between 'vaguely angry' and 'voice-cracking like a boy going through puberty' it's just hilarious.

It's hilarious, but it's also prefectly protrays the absurdity that Lester thought she could get away with it. There's a reason she washed out of the academy.

The way I interpreted it, it was saying that Starfleet captains have no room for women or romance in their lives, because they devote everything to their careers.
Maybe it's just because all the other Treks had 'wrap up' series finales, but, Turnabout Intruder feels very...strange.

Okay, I'll attempt to veer this away from another Janice Lester discussion.

Overall, I find season 3 to be dour and humorless. Suddenly the swashbuckling space adventure of the previous two seasons isn't very fun.

Also, am I the only one to think Nimoy's voice sounds odd the entire season, as if his nose is continuously stuffed up?

Good to see you in here, Neil.

You know, I thought Nimoy was pretty consistent throughout. I actually saw Shatner as being a little different: he seems a little sad, or moody. As if Shatner knew the show was coming to an end and it was creeping into his performance as Kirk.

I really enjoyed the Third Season, but the lower budget really comes through.

The disintegration of Shatner's first marriage might also have had something to do with it.

Yeah, Shatner's personal life was falling apart, and he wasn't seeing his children as much as he'd like. After the show ended, alimony and child support had been based on what he'd earned the previous year, which is why he was doing any job he could get, including margarine commercials.

That's right the marriage was falling apart. I remember that from his autobiography.

I thought he was divorced after Star Trek, but I guess I was wrong about that. Well, certainly divorce doesn't just happen. He was probably living in the dog house throughout Season 3.

Arguments with the wife certainly bring a damper to your day.

This is an interesting link of Shatner on the Mike Douglas show shortly after filming Turnabout Intruder in which he talks about the episode:

Also, this off topic, but in a later episode of Mike Douglas in which Ben Stiller's parents appeared prior to the filing of the motion picture he discusses what was phsae 2. he mentions throwing a huge party just prior to filming and notes that filing was abruptly cancelled. Here is the link:

It must be Phase II he's talking about because that's the only show they got close to filming. None of the others got anywhere near set construction and costuming.

This is a hidden gem of an interview! Shatner knows how to handle a live audience.

I agree. In part 2 of the initial Mike Douglas interview, shatner puts on a musical number.

How's this for a challenge? The basic concept in spocks brain isn't bad....that is, a civilization run by a super computer which is actually a human (or Vulcan) brain.

If you were to re write the episode basing it on that premise, what would you do? What challenge , what drama?

    1. Get rid of the remote-controlled Spock body, that was just silly.
    2. Spock's head should have been shaved for the removal process, nevermind the reinstallation, but he should have at least had a bandage on his head after McCoy was finished.

Nah, Spock just has a flip-top head.
It's another one of those Vulcan physiological features that doesn't get mentioned until the plot calls for it.
