Jennifer Lien...Warlord

JeffinOakland

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
The common sentiment seems to be Jennifer Lien got screwed by the heartless bastards producing Voyager. I'm watching "Warlord" where Kes is possessed by the episode's bad guy. She overacts ridiculously.

Life is a gang bang.

Kes asks Vorrik the obvious question "How do I best become a seedy rapist because there's an angry Klingon inbetween me and my grandchild I love so dearly."

"Warlord" is one of the few episodes where Jennifer Lien was actually given the chance to shine.

huh? you've eluded me

In season 3's Before and After, B'Elanna dies, Kes and Tom have a baby, then their daughter gives birth to Andrew Kim a couple years after that.

If Kes wants to cradle wee Andrew and kiss his little forehead... Something bad has to happen to Tom and B'Elanna's relationship, or something has to happen to B'Elanna.

But really she just needs Tom for a couple hours once, and no one has to murder B'Elanna to bring that about?

Oh ok. I'm not there, yet ut now I'm looking forward to it.

Warlord is Lien at her best and the character at her best! Every time I see I'm like.. omg this person can act, she has some real scree presence.

It's pretty much the only time I enjoy her

And all the boy on boy kissing.

It's so fabulously gay.

I mean if that's a man's soul inside her female body, then she is a man.

Only a fool would think that watching Jennifer make out with other actresses is in the slightest bit homoerotic because as soon as the director says "action" she's a dude, and dude on girl is entirely pedestrian.

Kes is one of my least favourite characters and I think Warlord is a very boring episode but Jennifer Lien really stepped up her acting.

Yeah she got screwed with a role that just didn't have meat on the bone. Telepaths don't seem to get the best stories it seems. I think Marina Sirtis was lucky the role of Troi didn't get replaced too.

Give Jennifer Lien the character and attention they gave Seven of Nine and then you would have had an iconic trek character, even without the over the top catsuit imo...

Probably one of the best EPs of the series because of JL's performance.

Absolutely! Poor Jennifer floated around speaking softly like Sister Kes on loan from the Ocampa Convent, Our Lady of Inaudible Dialog for three seasons, always charming and lovely but never allowed to strut her stuff.

Then Warlord came along and Jennifer exploded into action like Christian Bale as what's-his-name, scaring all her big burly henchman into total submission and coming this close to planting one right on the lips of Galyn Gorg!

Be still my foolish heart . . .

And all through the episode I'm going, "Hey, who knew? You go, girl!"

I would love to see what the writers could have done with a fiery Kes / Seven relationship -- meaning a more hot-tempter and emotional Kes (but keeping that kitten-purr voice) trying to deal with the new cat in the sand box, Seven, with her cold efficiency and her complete disdain for Miss Ocampa 2303 who vows to bring peace, harmony, and fresh cut flowers to the galaxy.

If the network had really wanted to heat up the sex on Voyager they should have kept both these lovely ladies and let 'em flash their claws at each other for a full season before turning them into the Hot Dynamic Duo, BFF's covering each other's backs through thick and thin.

Sort of a "You mess with my sister, you're messin' with me!" kind of thing.

What do you think, guys. Big missed opportunity, or "We've seen all this before?"
