Murder!! or not?

JeffinOakland

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
1. Did Janeway murder Tuvix?
2. Should it have been her decision without his having a chance to defend himself in a court of some sort? Should she have at least discussed the matter with others, including the Dr. and Kes & Chakotay?
3. Why didn't anyone try to stop her if they thought it was murder? Did they think it was murder? Did the Dr. think it was murder?
4. Why did Tuvix go so quietly?
5. Why didn't anyone hold it against Janeway or ever mention it again?
6. Should it have been a two story arc to address questions 2-5?

There's a deleted scene where someone tries to speak up and help Tuvix and Janeway karate chops them in the neck. That's why they all looked so stunned in that scene.

Seriously though, yes it was murder. She murdered one person to revive two.

1. Janeway released Tuvok and Neelix.

2. Tuvix did discuss the matter with Janeway and others. His conversation with Kes was especially creepy.

3. The only way it would have been murder is if Janeway killed Tuvok or Neelix. No one died, so no murder.

4. It was the only way to get Janeway to shut up.

5. Apparently neither Tuvok nor Neelix were interested in being recombined.

6. The episode was too long as it was, there should have been a strong B story.

:)

2. Did JANEWAY discuss it w anyone else? Should she have?
3. Tuvix is a self-aware sentient being aware of his own existence and does not want to die.
4. What do you mean?

6. Good point.

Put it this way, if you were teleporting with someone and were amalgamated like Tuvix, would you like to be returned to normal?

Tuvix made it very clear he was perfectly comfortable being left alone just the way he was.

So it's the theoretical wishes of a dead person versus the stated wishes of a live person?

If you asked people if after death they could come back at the expense of a living person, of course a lot of people would say yes.

Or is it a numbers game? One dies for two to live, the needs of the many etc.

What if there had been an accident that created two people out of one? Should they both die to bring the other one back?

I'm sure Tuvix didn't want to die, but neither would Tuvok and Neelix have.

And I would assume that they later expressed relief that they were returned to life.

To put it another way: Don't the needs of TWO characters (Tuvok and Neelix) take precedence over the needs of ONE character (Tuvix)? Especially since that one character was the result of a transporter accident?

Besides, Tuvix was a bit of an arrogant jackass. He clearly did not care that his continued existence would have essentially meant the deaths of Tuvok and Neelix. So I am having a hard time sympathizing with him.

Are we going to be getting a new Tuvix thread every week this month? This must be the third one for August now.

Ninja'd by Gov Kodos, as usual.

The better question would be 'why didn't Janeway try to replicate what happened to Tomas Riker'.

Where was Seven Of Nine when we needed her the most. :(

By jove that would have been the answer. 7 could have assimilated Tuvix and then unplugged him. Janeway would have at him with her sword until she got the boys back and if anyone wanted to bitch about this Janeway could just point to 7 and say "as long as Tuvix lives in 7 he is not really dead".

Would you want Tuvix in you? Really?
