One thing I was hoping the movie would do and never did was show that Judy's unique rabbit capabilities would enable her to save the day when none of the predators could (small, quick movements, hopping, etc).
Damn, I need to buy figures of Judy Hops and Nick Wilde for my desk at work...

She was the first rabbit officer. Chief Bogo was a water buffalo, for one, and the briefing scene was full of other herbivores. One elephant, three rhinos, and one hippo by my count. They even called out Francine with the "elephant in the room" joke.
(They are outnumbered by predators, but not by much. Factoring in Judy and the Chief, it's about a 40/60 split.)
In my head I was associating "prey" with "small"
My info' is second, third, probably fourth hand, but, yes, that was supposedly a conscious decision by the film's creators to deal with the dietary issues of the carnivores. One of those "under the hood/not spelled out" aspects.
BTW, I saw it last night, which is sayin' somethin' as I RARELY go to the theater. And I will say I freakin' LOVED this movie!!! I will definitely purchase the Blu-Ray when it becomes available!

So clearly this movie is in a separate reality from Finding Nemo, where fish and birds are definitely sentient.
That was my thought as well. That this was kind of a what if animals developed the way we did situation.
Agreed. I think Zootopia is very good and the script has some excellent writing. The relationship between Judy and Nick in particular is a really good development over the course of the movie, and it's nice to see it change from initial antagonism to a deeper level of friendship that neither of them would have expected at the start. However, there are other areas where the writing is kind of one-dimensional and could have been handled better, and it would have been nice to see some characters give Judy valid reasons why being a police officer isn't an ideal career for a bunny, but not necessarily an impossible goal either. She's not as large or strong as many of the big species we see in Zootopia (but she can go where others can't and is faster and more dexterous, so there's a natural counterbalance).
Incidentally, I'm sure that Kristen Bell was overjoyed to play Priscilla, the female sloth at the DMV.
I don't get it. She only had like one line.
Slashfilm did a couple of interviews with the behind-the-scenes folks about the movie's long development. I really hope they get a chance to revisit some of these ideas in whatever sequels or spinoffs come along.

Incredible art and design work from earlier iterations of the film has been posted by the lead designer. Here's hoping they can reuse some of this stuff for the sequels.
