Yup, I Finally Sold Out...

GemHaters

Captain
And am none too happy about it, let me tell you...

For years I stood my ground and swore up and down I'd never watch Voyager(aside from a few trivial personal reasons, it never peaked my interest)...

But...ladies and gentlemen, I stand here today ashamed and appalled with myself....Just a few days ago I ordered season 1. *sigh*

Beginning of the end my dears...beginning...of...the...end...

I hope you don't take this the wrong way but if I had only six more months to live I wouldn't waste it with Voyager. ;)

It's the only Trek series I gave up on (although I still managed to see almost all episodes). There are some very good things about it, namely the Doctor and Seven. And there are also some good episodes, but all in all, it isn't my cup of tea. Hopefully, you'll enjoy it more. :)

There is some good Trek there, really. There's also some bad Trek. You just have to remember that is the case for Every. Single. Trek. Show. Without exception - and that includes TNG, DS9, ENT and TOS. So just enjoy what there is to enjoy, and let the rest go.

(Count Zero, I seem to remember that ENT is your favorite? That's the only Trek I gave up on. So you never can tell! ;) )

So you hated a show you never watched just because a good chunk of people dislike it?

I enjoyed Voyager. It was a little too light and fluffy for my tastes, but it was a generally enjoyable show with a fun cast of characters. It wasn't deep or intellectual; just fun. That's good enough for me.

This.

Though I told my wife that when I'm on my deathbed I want episodes of TOS playing in the background.

Don't let the naysayers scare you. Try to be as objective as possible. Don't let the glory of DS9 overshadow your experience.

Remember, that the first 2 seasons basically suck, and the 3rd one is marginally better. After that, the series starts to hit its stride. You'll hate some episodes but thoroughly enjoy others. Take it as it comes. It's Star Trek. And, from your perspective, it's NEW MATERIAL. Wow, what I'd give to be able to watch new episodes. ;)

A few Voyager episodes are excellent and stand with the best of every series. Also, no matter how they rank overall, every Trek series has some episodes that are better than the worst of every other series. But more than that, every Trek series has something good to offer.

My opinion of Voyager is that the first two seasons were the best, with season 4 as an awesome action series, and everything after that sucks.

Eh, watch what you feel like watching. There are definitely some worthwhile episodes in the first couple of seasons and there are at least a couple of really outstanding ones.

I gave up on The Seven of Nine Show as well. I liked it in the beginning, but for all it promised to be, it just never came across as a daring voyage across the unknown, instead more of leisurely cruise--with them shooting at just about everyone in the DQ.

I was about to do the same with ENT after its second season, but then the whole Xindi plot drew me back in. The last two seasons started to make up for its poor start (my mind has blanked out TATV, otherwise I would need some intensive therapy).

I could almost say the same thing about DS9.
Granted, that show had some enjoyable moments (and I'm not referring to the Dominion War that dumbed down a lot of things), but overall, in my personal opinion, it wasn't as enjoyable as Voyager was.

To the OP... since you hadn't seen Voyager to this day, take is as new Trek material. Be your own judge of the show.

It seems that there is some sort of exclusivety to these two shows, i.e. ENT fans tend to dislike VOY and vice-versa. This is a totally subjective theory on my part based on my experiences.

I hope I didn't step on anyone's toes with my first post. It was just a joke and my personal opinion. I know what it's like being a fan of an unpopular Trek show, as JustKate pointed out. ;)

Enjoy the experience. As with everything, there are good and bad episodes. On the whole, though, it certainly isn't as bad as some naysayers say it is.

All the Star Trek shows have good and bad episodes, for me I found Voyager's hit to miss ratio to be towards the miss end.

Reading all of your responses was quite entertaining, I must say.

To those of you who said you wouldn't spend your last six months watching Star Trek...there's nothing I'd rather do. My entire life is science fiction and Star Trek(And The X-Files! I bleed green!) I don't live in a little place people call reality. lol. I spend the majority of my time locked inside my own head, that's the way it's always been. Me, myself, and I. It's a lonely place, but they serve Romulan ale! lol...
