I am a teacher so I get to bend the ear of a lot of kids and chat with them about various likes and dislikes. My students know I love trek. Over the holiday season a number of them have gone out of their way to let me know they actually got the film on Netflix with their families and almost all of them have said they loved it. I'm not surprised that they are liking it, I am surprised by how many of them have "tested the trek waters".

I wonder if more of them will be willing to go out and see the next one in the movie theater.

I took my nieces, 11 and 12, to see the movie during the summer. Neither are Trek fans (they've seen a couple TNG episodes, but that's it). They're both Dr. Who fans (the modern era).

They both really enjoyed the movie.

My 13 year old brother seem to like it enough for someone whose not a TREK fan and very light on SCI FI though I would call him a casual sci fi fan.

Yes, it is. Most of the times I went, there were loads of teenagers at the cinema. I thought they were gonna be a problem, but that wasn't Twilight, so nobody giggled during close-ups on the hot guys.
