I swear I just posted on this, already. Anyway, I see no poll here, but worst orig. Treks:

    Apple
    Friday's child
    Triskelion
    Chil Shall Lead
    Wink of Eye
    Whom Gods
Elaan of Troius (no mention yet?!)
    Gideon
    That Wh Survives
    Cloud minders
    Savage Curtain (!!)
    Turnabout Intruder

"Plato's Stepchildren" was one of the few season 3 solid stories that had real humanity to it. I can only attribute the criticism to a misinterpretation of the Kirk-Spock "entertainment" scenes as "wackiness" rather than as what they were: a shocking degradation of the dignity of the characters on the part of omnipotent egomaniacs. "How can you let this go on?"--- that was a hard moment.

And don't anyone dare criticize the late Michael Dunn!

"The Savage Curtain" would rank lower on my list were it not for Lee Bergere's Lincoln and the introductions of both Kahless and Colonel Green to the franchise. And the Yarnek/Excalbian makeup is really, really awesome for 1968/69 television.

I've based my life philosophy on that episode. I know not everyone gets it, but it is brilliant.

"And The Children Shall Lead" and "The Way to Eden" are out on their own, lacking any redeeming features of any kind. "Turnabout Intruder", "The Cloud Minders" and "The Apple" are more or less equally dreadful. I voted for "Turnabout Intruder" this time around.

I've come to regard "Spock's Brain" as Star Trek's version of Plan 9 From Outer Space. It's awful, but hilariously so. :D

The Alternative Factor(I've seen it LOTS of times and I'm always confused)
The Omega Glory (Kirk's speeches ALWAYS make me wince..and this has one of the worst)
Turnabout Intruder ( YES,,we'll end this show with a rotton festering turkey that wasn't exceeded in it's maggot feeding turkeyness until "These Are The Voyages" ended Enterprise)..

Sure, it's a dumb episode...but compared to "And the Children Shall Lead" or the Lazarus episode it might as well be THE WRATH OF KHAN.

"And the Children Shall Lead," "THe Alternative Factor" and "The Way to Eden."

For one of the greatest tv shows of all time, Star Trek had a lot of duds. Just goes to show how great the greats were.

The Melvin Belli one makes "Tsunkatse" on VOYAGER look like an Olivier production of KING LEAR.

I heard a story about a philosophy prof. who played Spock's Brain for a lecture. Apparently, Spock's Brain lays out some basic philosophic concepts such as the idea of self (no brain, no body), male/female identity, and so on.

If you look at it as a schlocky sci-fi lesson about identity in human perception it's really extra funny at the end when McCoy says; "I should never have connected his mouth!"

To be honest, I'd rather watch 'The Way to Eden' than The Wrath of Khan, just about any day. At least 'Eden' knows it's a cartoon. ;)

Like I said. No redeeming features of any kind. :p

(Nice call about TWOK, though.)

Damn. Talk about missed opportunities. :p

Plato's Stepchildren, Plato's Stepchildren and Plato's Stepchildren. It can't be hated enough.
The Way to Eden and Children Shall Lead. Heck, most of the third season.
    I liked Gamesters and FTWIHAIHTTS.

My criterion would be watching an episode with a non Trekker and being embarrassed for myself & them.

    Alterative factor was a screw-up
    Catspaw a total mis fire
Turnabout... & Way to Eden are clearly a product of their time BUT............

Spock's Brain, Plato's Stepchildren and And The children Shall Lead are just so horribly bad, ill-conceived, poorly written, acted, cringe-inducing that I would rather not let anybody know I like the series if i had to show them those.

    It like the old expression:

Better to keep your mouth shut and let people think you're a fool, than open it and remove all doubt!

Better to let folks think TOS sucked, than show them those episodes and remove all doubt (in their mind anyway)
