OdoWanKenobi, you have Brazil in your top 100 list? really? is thet the one with the slightly slapstick take of 1984 with Robert De Nero as ''Harry'' Tuttle ? Wow! I thought Brazil was disappointing. Gilliam's "12 Monkeys" was a much better attempt by him at doing a 'Dystopian future' movie. "Brazil" was just too incoherent. Despite all the time travel, "12 Monkeys" was a lot more focused and engaging.

I personally feel one's favourite movie list gets less personalized the longer it is. It should make a statement about who you are based on which movies you have the most affection for, and when there are so many, I think any possible insight it may offer into who you are specifically just gets buried under too many titles. So I offer a shorter list. Not really in order of preference after the top 10.

1. Scarface (1983)
2. Before Sunrise (1995)
3. Say Anything...(1989)
4. The Sure Thing (1985)

6. Ed Wood (1994)
7. One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest (1975)

9 X2: X-Men United (2003)
10. Halloween (1978)
11. Twelve Monkeys (1995)
12. Bride Of Frankenstein (1935)
13. Adaptation. (2002)
14. The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
15. Star Trek: First Contact (1996)
16. Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)

I know it's over twwo weeks old, but I just now recalled antoher film. Technically a TV movie, it was a heck of a solid effort and worth checking out if you can find it (it's also on DVD):

"Pirates of Silicon Valley"

Story of how Bill Gates got to where he is. IT's fun, funny, and just neat to watch.

I saw that about ten years ago. It was fun. Whoever the actor was who played Bill Gates nailed him. And I can bet that both Bill Gates and Steve Jobs have disowned the movie.

I've got my top ten figured out, but anything beyond that and my Film Studies diploma starts to yell at me for putting this film before that film and it all goes to hell.

I'll try my best to do a top 30, because I just tried to do a top 100 and my head nearly exploded.

1. East of Eden (Kazan)
2. Children of Men (Cuaron)
3. A Clockwork Orange (Kubrick)
4. I'm Not There (Haynes)

6. Hot Fuzz (Wright)
7. Dark City (Proyas)
8. Dr. Strangelove (Kubrick)

Oddly enough, this list has some peculiarities.

Fantastic Four has always been my favorite comic book, but the movies could not find its way on my list. Injustice, fighting for the under dog is a theme for some of my favorites. Matrix trilogy was the only full series that made it; sorry Terminator. A few oldies are on the list because I remember them as a kid and they made great impressions on me.

Nice to see "The Taking of Pelham One Two Three" on someone's list. Such a cool, underrated movie with wonderful performances from Robert Shaw and Walter Matthau. I've never seen a thriller with so much subtlety. I really love its understated style and comedy, although the bumbling Mayor was a bit of a caricature. :) It saddens me that there was a remake that by all accounts traded its charm for lame 'modern' action histrionics.
