Your signature....

A lot of folks on this site have signatures that can be seen with every post made. Question: has you sig ever drawn any or more attention than an occasional remark whether positive or negative.

Some years ago I had a sig that read: Star Trek: 1964-1979. Let's get back to space adventure, strange new worlds and the final frontier. Contemporary Trek has failed. Or something like that. It drew me a lot of flak in discussions, particularly that last part I think which was often thrown back at me as having a closed mind to anything new.

I stuck to my guns for quite awhile, but eventually dropped the last sentence. Sometime later I dropped the rest except for the Star Trek: 1964-1979 part. And for awhile now I've had the sig you can see at the bottom of this post.


So has your sig ever drawn any unusual attention? And maybe you can share the thinking behind your choice of signature. Note it doesn't have to be Trek related.

Mine's just a link to my forums at the moment. It's been mentioned a few times, and I've received some PM's about it.

I used to put a poignant or funny quote in the sig but I got lazy at some point and never added a new one. I should probably get back to doing that again.

My sig here is a free plug for Marillion's website. I've never had any comments, but I hope some people have clicked on the link.

On another site, many moons ago, my signature line was a simple "Cheers!" On the threads that were non political, non controversial, it never got noticed, but it used to REALLY REALLY piss people off in the political threads. Some of them thought I was being a smartass and belittling them, but in reality it was meant to diffuse things.. We can argue all we want, but in the end, I still like you..

Whatever.. They were a bunch of namby-pamby crybabies, so I left.

I apologize for and excuse my spelling.

I will say that using my phone to post online (without a spellchecker to fall back on) has improved my spelling tremendously.

Unless we have more Giants fans here, I haven't gotten anyone commenting on my sig. As for the links, I found it helps me more than it helps others, even though I don't really use Livejournal anymore and Twitter is something I have Echofon for.

Hey, it's Gurren Lagaan. Thanks Preview Post. Well, I think the fact that there's probably less than a dozen people who know what Gurren Lagaan is on this board, I'll just say no. No, I don't see many people comment on it. I used to have a far more popular Doctor Who signature, but no one commented on that either.

I noticed your link a while back, checked it out and decided to bookmark it. Once was thinking of posting a link to an entry, but was almost immediately sidetracked by five things in quick succession, and never got back to it.

Mine is just a funny Shatner out-take that explains my screen name for those who haven't seen him pronounce the word. No one has commented on it, but I hope they got a kick out of it.

In general, I find most sigs amusing, but some of the sanctimonious ones grate a bit.

If I change my screen name, I'll probably develop a rotating group of MST3K stingers to run through, or something else gently comic.

I used to have a rotating quote, plus my quote on top. I decided I just felt like having my quote. It's nothing special, but I hope somebody likes it.

My sigs lately have just been odd quotes from cartoons.

For the longest time, it was "Never send a monster to do the work of an evil scientist." That was from an old Bugs Bunny cartoon, "Water, Water Every Hare" (1952).

My current sig is from an old Spider-Man cartoon, "Revolt in the 5th Dimension," and goes with my non-Halloween avatar.

ETA: You can hear the voice of the Evil Scientist here. Contrary to what this site says, the voice is not Vincent Price--nor Boris Karloff, as I mistakenly thought.

Not lately, but one or two past sigs have attracted some comment:

We're all born the same way, we all bleed red, and we're all going to die. Everything else is irrelevant. - a minor philosophical musing on my part which sums up my views on people, especially those who think they / some particular person or people is / are somehow better than everyone else.

Pressure? Pressure is a Messerschmitt up your arse. - a remark made by the late Australian Test cricketer and WWII pilot Keith Miller in response to a question about the "pressure" of playing international sport. I doubt he'd have much time for some of today's whiners, somehow.
