Your short list for The 11th Doctor

I like Davenport, he could be a bit too similar to Tennant though, although it would depend how he played the role/ his outfit etc.

While I do like the Paterson Joseph idea running around, I have this twisted notion that Doug Henshall (from Primeval, for those who don't recognize the name) would be maddeningly interesting.

I think Davenport is far too well known. I mean, not only is he a pretty well established TV actor in Britain... he was in the Pirates of the Caribbean films. Waaaay too big.

"Too big" to play THE BLOODY DOCTOR???

That does not compute.

It does to me. I don't think they should be too famous before they're cast. Tennant's pre-Doctor fame was about right. People knew enough about him to be excited, but he wasn't enough of a personality to taint the role.

And I don't see Eccleston as being half as brilliant as everyone makes out. He wasn't a bad Doctor by any means, but frankly, he often came across as though he considered the role beneath him, and I don't think he's that great an actor. Tennant runs rings around him imho.

Izzard would be also be a terrible choice, IMHO. Collin Baker already fulfilled the fairy version of Doctor Who :)

Are you saying Colin is gay?

I believe he's also saying Eddie Izzard is gay, when of course he isn't.

Exactly. He's an Executive Transvestite.

I'm not too sold on Paterson Joseph idea. He's never really convinced me when he does straight drama, and I'd just be thinking, "Oh, there's Johnson off Peep Show". Whereas Tennant was more sort of, "Oh, there's that actor who was in...something." I'm just not convinced he's a good enough actor, which Tennant obviously is.

I hope it's someone I've not even thought about, who turns out to be brilliant.

Patrick Stewart
Ian McDiarmid
James Callis
Roger Rees
Colm Meaney
Philip Glenister
Marshall Lancaster

Roger Rees, there's a name I haven't seen in a while.

I was watching Merlin yesterday and I reckon the guy who plays Arthur could make a good Who (not the 11th mind you but maybe 12th or 13th)

I have not read through the whole thread. So I don't know if anybody already mentioned Gary Oldman

^ He's English and can act? I can't see him as The Doctor either, more of a Borussa (sp) I reckon.

He's English and can act?

Well... yeah, but I wouldn't want Ray Winstone or Ralph Fiennes playing the Doctor either.

I'd love to see him pn the show, but certainly not in the title role.

Finnes is a very good actor, so I'd be almost tempted to suggest he could probably pull it off. Ray winstone though? Nooooo!

Wouldn't surprise me if we got Jamie Winston as a companion some day though...
