Your short list for The 11th Doctor

I think it's time for an old Doctor again. I vote John Hurt or Bill Nighy.

One suggestion I'd heard which sounds interesting to me is Captain Jack inadvertantly interfering with the Doctor's regeneration, regenerating him into... John Barrowman! (I can only imagine their first scene together. The Doctor having to be especially firm about rejecting Jack's sexual advances. The Doctor looking in the mirror for the first time, "What?!?")

I think Chris Barrie might make a good Doctor. (Rimmer from Red Dwarf.)

The funny thing is, I've sometimes thought that David Tennant is probably the only other actor in the world who could conceivably play Rimmer.;)

I think he'd have to use his Scottish accent, but yeah that'd be funny if nothing else!

^Oh, I agree. The Doctor just needs to have some kind of British accent. In fact, that would be one of the most crucial ways of distinguishing between the Doctor & Jack.

Just sticking with reasonably realistic choices, I'd love to see Stephen Merchant playing the Doctor.

Given how much he has trashed the show and the fans(deservedly), it will never happen.

Ricky on the other hand........

There are few things that would make me stop watching, congratulations on finding one of them!!

Another name for the pot, Alexander Armstrong- think he'd be great.

I don't have any strong desires for any one particular actor. I will say, however, that I really hope the next Doctor has a Scottish accent. The Doctor is supposed to be a British national icon -- so why should the English have all the fun? The different incarnations of the Doctor can have accents that represent the whole of Great Britain.

well, the reason why David uses the cod London accent was to avoid seeming to 'tour the regions' after Chris' Northern accent...

(as if London/Estuary isn't a regional accent. it is to laugh...:rommie:)

Yeah, I'd heard that. Which to me seems odd -- what's wrong with touring the regions, with making sure that the Doctor's accents reflect the whole of Great Britain and not just England? I mean, heck, if we had a comparable American national hero who would have a good excuse to change his accent every few years, I'd certainly want to see all the different American accents represented.

I agree on the accent front (and I wish DT used his own) but I think after the manic DT maybe a nice calm Welshman would do a treat (especially if he had a Scottish companion- sorry but I just adore women with Scottish accents!)

Well, I just got back from Dragon*Con (a scifi convention in Atlanta, GA), where James Callis (Gaius Baltar from Battlestar Galactica, and my third choice in the initial post of this thread) was in attendance. I happened to be outside on a smoking balconey with him at the same time, and we happened to strike up a conversation. We talked a bit about just random convention things, or the upcoming Hurricane Gustav, etc. Then, I broached the subject of Doctor Who with him. One, he looooves the show. Two, he and David happen to be friends, and he thinks Tennant is absolutely brilliant in it. He was very emphatic about his love for Number Ten. Which lead to the whole conversation about taking the role. He plainly explained that he believed viewers would see him as being too similiar to David Tennant, and thought someone drastically different should jump into the shoes of The Doctor. I, of course, accepted that answer, and we continued to just chat in general about media, scifi, and all that jazz. He's playing Merlin in an upcoming (I believe on Sci-Fi) tv movie.

So, that at least answers my question about Baltar as The Doctor. From the horses mouth... :techman:
