I've met Tim professionally and let me back up that he is extremely aware of the desires of the Trek community and is very supportive. Remember, he is more part of it than anyone here.
Let's put it this way, the Trek community is diverse. There's room for all forms of appreciation but if you want it to continue to grow, it needs to go where no man has gone before. Push the boundaries of Sci-Fi and be on the cutting edge.
No program can stay static unless you want to pack it in mothballs. In which case, Trek will go the way of so many others that only exist in archives. That's how I see it.
