Your pagh is....weak?

PTRACER

Lieutenant
Red Shirt
Did anyone ever have a weak pagh?

Everyone's pagh was always strong, with the exception of Sisko's in In The Hands Of The Prophets, where Vedek Winn could tell he was a "disbeliever" via his ear alone.

Weyoun in 'In the Cards' - Kai Winn looked like she wanted to wash her hand after touchin' his ear.

The great bit about it is that after Winn tells him "No. We are nothing alike", he walks off with his usual smile while she looks rather concerned...

^ True...

A disbeliever at the time, obviously... but clearly his "pagh" was even stronger than hers...

Winn didn't say Sisko's pagh was weak, just that he was a disbeliever. Sisko was a disbeliever who didn't want to be anywhere near Bajor in "Emissary" and Opaka said his pagh was strong.

I laugh so much at that bit. Winn is definately a power-hungry bitch that you shouldn't ever turn your back on, but that was hilarious.

*reads own pagh* Damn, now I can't see to post!

I wonder if Bojorans are slightly touch-telepathic, because of the sensing of the "soul" by touch.

I've suspected this, as well. On a (somewhat) related topic, I've often wondered why the Romulans haven't exhibited any evidence of telepathy. Theoretically, since they're a recent (evolutionarily speaking) offshoot of the Vulcans, they should still have telepathic powers. Of course, they're really secretive, so maybe they do and just keep it on the down-low.

Or maybe the mental discipline needed to be emotionless & logical is what helps the Vulcans mind meld, while the Romulans are chaotic & emotional, so they can't do it.

^Or at least they can't master it as easily, since Vulcan meditation is actually said to restructure the brain to a degree. So Romulans may have some latent telepathy but don't focus enough to do it.

I'm not sure about Bajorans, though. Is it all of them or just Kais and Vedeks? I don't think you could say Weyoun's pagh was WEAK...but he worships the Founders as gods which is probably what made Winn so uncomfortable. The look on his face while she's touching his ear is hilarious, he looks so amused.

Maybe Vorta ears are an errogenious zone, like with Ferengi.

Think of that for a second! Winn felt Weyoun up right there at the airlock!

Good point. To the other poster who weighed on this I somewhat agree.

Perhaps the Romulans ARE touch telepathics, but don't want to be like Vulcans.

Well, first of all, Kai Winn admitted to having never really felt the presence of the Prophets-- and I would imagine that means her "pagh-feeling" routine is little more than an act expected of one in her position (no different than praying or blessing someone). In fact, the only time I ever believed a character in DS9 was actually getting something out of the ear tug was when Opaka did it to Sisko.

At the risk of sounding like one of the Starfleet cynics who call the Prophets "Wormhole Aliens," I'm venturing to guess the ear-grabbing is little more than a custom.

Well, if we want to throw in some ENT canon most Vulcans weren't even aware they had telepathic abilities-- and it wasn't socially accepted until well after their first contact with humans. In the scheme of Vulcan/Romulan evolution, that isn't a lot of time.
