Pits don't fall anywhere if they're surrounded by avocado. A ripe avocado is going to ooze everywhere when cutting away enough for the pit to fall out thereby wasting some perfectly good potential guac.

Besides, I like gadgets. :)

Then you're doing it wrong. :p

And I like gadgets too. It's just that, if you can pit an avocado, you don't need to be in a kitchen.

Do people not know how to eat fruit??

Avocados - sharp knife, cut longitudinally into halves, twist halves apart. You've have one half without the stone and the other half with the stone still in. Impale stone on the knife blade (not the point), twist and it will come out. Done. 1 minute job, at most.

Mangoes - sharp knife, cut down from a little bit off centre and curve around the stone. Repeat 3 times to have 2 big quarters, two smaller quarters and the stone with a little bit of flesh left. Trim the extra little flesh off the stone. Shouldn't take more than half a dozen cuts at most. Either slice or hedgehog the big quarters. 5 minute job, at most.

Four new bookshelves (time to get organized!), a pantry for the kitchen, and two barstools for the basement.

Can't wait to get things put out on display!

Thank you! If they're ripe, they give a little when you press. Also, it should still look healthy when you pull out the little stem - if it looks dark, or has dark lines, the avocado likely is past prime. An unripe avocado cannot compare to one perfectly ripe... night and day difference.

This has made me very thankful I have a sack of avocados on the counter. :D

On a side note, I haven't bought anything in the last few days, but am considering getting a GPS unit for my mom for Mother's Day.

^Avocados are easy, but I'll never get a handle on mangoes. Maybe I should put it the simple things you can't do thread. Or Holdfast can put it in the complicated things you can do thread.

Gee, I'm glad I could make people feel good about themselves. Hopefully it's not the highlight of your week though because that would be just plain sad.

Nicely put. I feel suitably chastised. I think I'll go have a banana. I have to peel that one, right....? :p

Great.

So, how are you with a pineapple?

That's one I never see people do the right way.

And a spoon and a fillet knife is all one she need for mangoes.

Two ways to do it I know of -

The quick way I do it - top & tail the pineapple, thick curve-slice the skin off down the sides, then slice and core. Loses some flesh because of the thick "peeling" and might leave a divot or two to remove at the end but it's fast.

The fancy-chef way - top & tail, thin curve-slice the sides, then "spiral cut" out the "divots" before slicing. Preserves more of the flesh but slower.

I love you.

But there's actually a better way (more efficient than the first, faster than the second):

Twist out the tail. Stab the knife where the tail used to be and cut down the sides and cut it into quarters. Each quarter should have a nice accessible part of the core that can be trimmed off. Also, with the pineapple in quarters there's a nice point on either end to slide a knife into. You can then side the knife between the meat and the skin and have a nice guideline to follow thus not wasting any of the meat and the outside is still nice and clean.

Where do I start? I bought groceries yesterday and tonight I ordered some 'critter' things. I ordered a tank topper for my gerbils. It will add a nice-sized piece of real estate to the tank. :D I think the boys will like it. I also ordered a cage for a guinea pig. I'm planning on getting a 'piggie' in a few weeks and need to get some things before time. :D

Ooh, I've learnt something new today! I might go buy a pineapple tomorrow, just so I can try this out. Thanks!: cool:

had the generator rebuilt for the 34 ford.

planning on installing it next week and get the old girl running again. went through 3 batteries before I tested one under load and it wasn't drawing any charge. I thought it was initially bad batteries -not many make 6V anymore.

I bought some dvd's:
- Das Leben der Anderen
- Die Falscher
- The Fountain
- The Pianist
- Stalingrad
- Topgun
