I bought hubby Vol 1 & 2 of Queen's Greatest Hits for Valentine's Day. I hope he likes it. He's a fan of Queen but only has the Highlander soundtrack.

I also picked up some tie-backs for our new red curtains. 2 1/2 years in this house, and we just NOW got curtains in the dining room.

Just bought 5 cones each of a 60/40 cashmere/silk blend in 2 shades of gray. This will produce a lovely shaded fabric. Depending on how it swatches out, I think it will be a jacket for winter 08/09. Or, if it drapes really well, an evening shell to which I'll add hand beading.

I was tempted to buy some of the cash/silk in terra cotta, but decided I liked the gray-on-gray I'll get with the shades I chose.

Depending on how well this works up on the knitting machine, I may buy more...

Knitting machines scare me. They seem so complicated. I have to say, I'm happy to leave it to someone else to make up my clothes. That way I can still be incredibly fussy without creating any extra work for myself!

Kudos to you though. I'm thinking that two different greys could create a nice herringbone pattern - can that (or a similar pattern) be knitted or does it require weaving?

Oh, they scare me too!

I'm just learning the thing. This semester's class is "Knitwear Design and Production." But, so far, I'm finding that there are a lot of things that are just faster on needles. That may change with proficiency. After all, I've worked on a knitting machine for 3 hours. I've knitted on needles for 45 years.

I did a shell for a friend for Christmas using a dark gray silk and black baby alpaca in feather and fan alternating stripes. (Feather & fan lace pattern below)

With the two shades side by side, it gave the pattern a lot of depth.

Though they don't have as much food (mostly coffee/teas), I've been partial to either Uncommon Grounds or Spyhouse (off Nicollet) as of late. UG has a nice, quiet atmosphere and is right by the two theaters in Uptown while Spyhouse has a sort of funky-type of vibe, with art on the walls changed all the time; good for interesting conversation starters.

Yeah, Uncommon Grounds is great at night, very nice atmosphere. I see a lot of movies at the Uptown theater (Lagoon, not so much) and a trip to UC is usually a prerequisite.

As for Spyhouse, Eat Street area, yeah. Between 24th and 25th Street, easiest to get there from either south Lyndale or W Franklin.

Though prices are a little high for some things, the teas are great and I personally recommend trying the Tokyo Rose coffee. I was pleasantly surprised.

- Kodak M883 digital camera, as a birthday gift for a friend.
- Two tickets to see Peer Gynt at the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis this Valentine's with the GF.
- Lots of gas this past weekend (Trip from Minneapolis to Winona to deliver previously mentioned gift to Waseca, and back to Minneapolis, in the course of 24 hours. About 400 miles or so, oi! )

Which thread is this again? Oh yeah, my most recent purchases on a trip to Target yesterday were a bottle of peroxide, chocolate for the communal office dish, and the special addition dvd of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Last night I watched with the commentaries - fun stuff.

In the past month I've bought Guitar Hero 3 for Wii, preordered Super Smash Bros. Brawl, bought an iPod Nano, a few bottles of Vitamin Water, a drink for the guy I like (had to do SOMETHING to repay him for buying me a video game), a heating pad, some Advil, and a Valentine's card for the aforementioned guy.
