Your Latest Gas And Electric Bill

Your pipes are going to burst without the heat on.

Turn down the thermostat, keep extra lights/devices off when not being used and budget things better.

Turning off the heat is just going to cause more problems.

My all-electric one-bedroom apartment costs me around US$80 a month.

If the pipes and walls are insulated, they will not burst

$98 (Electricity), I don't have gas. I also live in Arizona where I almost NEVER need to use artificial heat for my home. Come summer, my electric bill will approach $300.

Tacky are you on a dual fuel tariff? That saves you quite a fair amount over the year.

My electricity bill from April last year to January this year was £20

My electric bill was $90 last month, which is the highest it has been for the winter thus far. I don't have a gas bill, and I use the heat sparingly (as in, only in one room, and only when I'm home). Also, I locked in my electric rate at (I think) 11.2¢/kwh last year when I signed up to get wind-power electric through Clean Currents. That's about 2-3¢ cheaper than the normal BGE rate during the Summer, and about the same as the winter rates, so I end up saving when my electric bills are higher (~$120) in the Summer; I can much more readily tolerate 50 degrees in the house than I can 95. ;)

Eh, my prices are alright. $70 or so for electric, and have oil heat, so the deliveries aren't real great ($400 or so per dropoff), but I usually only go through a couple tanks a year, so averages out just fine. Well-insulated house, new siding/windows/doors, so I make out just fine...

Don't you use clothespins or clothes pegs to keep the clothes in place when hanging outside?
If this is for me, then yes, I do. For sheer muscular power, really not much beats prairie storms. It knocked the closeline over, clothes and all. I used one of those umbrella types, not strung on poles in the yard.

There's really not much else I can do to save money, I've already got all bulbs as energy saving and they're only 40 watts a piece. My cooker is electric. The only thing I use Gas for is central heating and warming up the water.

I see no alternative but to switch energy provider to try and get a cheaper deal. Off to confused.com or uswitch.com methinks.

Yes you should shop around but be warned. MAKE SURE whoever you're changing to knows you want both gas and leccy and you want dual fuel. We've been stung that way in the past.

Something's just struck me. What do Americans call gas?

Gas.

Ditto. "Gas." Or "natural gas" if you want to be wordy.

I think I know what you're getting at, and there is little confusion between "natural gas" gas and "gasoline" gas because they are virtually never used for the same applications. The gas you put in your car is not the same as the gas you heat your house with. When you pay a "gas bill" everybody knows you mean natural gas, not that you had to pay a bill to the local gasoline station.

I'd recommend people check their fuel tariffs with other providers, I've just been on moneysupermarket.com and saved myself a fortune.
Last time I switched provider to save money it was a real pain in the ass but I don't care because with the prices I'm currently paying I'll do whatever it takes to get a cheaper tariff. It seems as though every tw@t is cheaper than my current provider the ripping off c***s.

I'm now saving 4 pence per Kwh just on my electric and not far off that with my Gas.
