"Your Highness" red band trailer (Natalie Portman, Zooey Deschanel)

Re: "Your Highness" red band trailer (Natalie Portman, Zooey Deschanel

I bet you have black/homosexual/otherminorityofchoice friends, too.

Re: "Your Highness" red band trailer (Natalie Portman, Zooey Deschanel

I don't get you point? Are you trying to say I'm being over PC or something? I'm just saying that I didn't like what I heard about the movie so now I'm not going to see it.
And yes I do have minority friends, and I don't see why that matters at all.

Re: "Your Highness" red band trailer (Natalie Portman, Zooey Deschanel

All I want to know is, does the bad man really chop off the minotaur's wang doodle?

Poor minotaur :( Should have gotten a job at Blizzard instead.

My point was that when people do what you're doing -- citing all the things they allegedly like to prove just how much they really do like it -- only do so because they're trying to convince themselves that they do.

You don't like this type of movie. Fine. No need to go about saying how much you "should" like it, all the while throwing your nose arrogantly in the air.

Re: "Your Highness" red band trailer (Natalie Portman, Zooey Deschanel

This movie looks terrible, just plain terrible and the BtS link above doesn't sell me on anything at all. I've no problems with "stoner comedies" which can be fun but it looks like this movie is just going to an exercise in the lowest of possible stoner/penis jokes it's going to be Year One all over again.

Yeah, I agree, and I hope that this sends a message to Hollywood to stop making movies like this. But I guess that's too big a consideration for Hollywood. It looks like it's literally scraping the bottom of the barrel.

If this movie makes $1 Hollywood will make another one, how many of those God-Awful of those [Genre] Movie movies did they make?

Re: "Your Highness" red band trailer (Natalie Portman, Zooey Deschanel

eh, i still refuse to get movie advice from the man who wrote 'Beyond the Valley of the Dolls'.

First it's because he "doesn't get it" which is patently untrue, now it's because he wrote Beyond the Valley of the Dolls... like over 40 years ago.

Why don't you just say you don't like Ebert or his reviews, why trump up other excuses?
i don't like Ebert or his reviews :p

That was not what I was trying to do at all. I just meant that I don't usually have a problem with crude stoner movies in general, but that this specific one just sounds like it takes things to far for me. And I sure has hell was not "sticking my nose up in the air", and it if came across that way it was not my intent at all. And if I insulted anyone I sincerely apologize it was not my intent at all and I am very very sorry. I admit I'm not always that great at expressing myself the way I intend to.

Re: "Your Highness" red band trailer (Natalie Portman, Zooey Deschanel

This movie isn't even out yet and everybody already hates it??

Fandom anymore....

That said, all the hate has made me want to see it, but since it's impossible for me to get to the theater without help, I'll most likely rent the DVD come Christmas time. Or whenever that comes out.

Re: "Your Highness" red band trailer (Natalie Portman, Zooey Deschanel

What are you talking about? The movie is out.

Also, Uwe Boll movies are all panned before they even come out. Does that mean you've watched all of them?

Simply too many ;)

Sometimes all one needs is to view a single trailer to see how bad it's going to be, where nothing improves after subsequent trailers. Unfortunately, this movie is one of them and the reviews pretty much seem to agree with the criticism in this thread. Sometimes it's also not very hard to see if a movie is going to tank.

eh, i still refuse to get movie advice from the man who wrote 'Beyond the Valley of the Dolls'.

I'm more interested in the opinions of anyone who's written any successfully produced film than I am in the opinions of five thousand anonymous posters who think they're clever.

If you've seen that movie, BTW, prove it. If you haven't, there's no reason for anyone to take your opinion of it or its screenwriter seriously.

There's no getting around the fact that most people who've seen this movie so far say it sucks. Looks like Ebert's right yet again.

Re: "Your Highness" red band trailer (Natalie Portman, Zooey Deschanel

I usually watch everything that has Natalie Portman in it... but even I am planning to skip this one. :rommie:

successfully produced does not equal a successful product. 'Beyond The Valley of the Dolls' is a terrible excuse for a film. its pretty much a soft core porno with some soap opera esq elements thrown in. i'm much more interested in the opinion of fellow fans that Ebert. maybe thats just me.

Re: "Your Highness" red band trailer (Natalie Portman, Zooey Deschanel

Based on previous posts, not just this last one, Dennis seems to be of the "you can't criticize Eli Manning because you've never played in the NFL" mentality. Which, by that same token, you can't say anything good either.

I never said I hated it. I do think it looks funny, I like fantasy flicks and I like Danny McBride. I'm just not sure this film is worth going out to the theaters for. Especially when I am planning on going to see Scream 4 next week.

I think the worthwhile aspects involving Natalie Portman are featured in the trailer. :p

Well, to be fair, he did tell us that his opinion is worth less than shit. So it doesn't really matter what he vomits forth on the forums.

And considering just how clever he thinks he is, well...

Well yeah, it's a pretty lame movie, but I don't think that's reason enough to believe Ebert has no credibility. What about the fact that he's been writing film reviews for 44 years, seen thousands of movies, won a Pulitzer Prize for his writing (the first film critic to do so), has taught courses on film, and done many set visits and interviews with film makers to discuss and better understand/appreciate the craft of film making?

Over the years he's made his fair share of bad calls (in fact, he gave three stars to what I consider the second worst film I've ever seen), but I always respect his opinion and I think it's really unfair to dismiss his opinion based on his screenwriting history.

The flicks he wrote were supposed to be silly B-pictures. He wasn't aiming for high art. And while I agree that a lot of "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls" is stupid and tedious, I did think the final sequence (with the LSD party) was pure cinema brilliance. Transcendently hilarious camp. On purpose!

Re: "Your Highness" red band trailer (Natalie Portman, Zooey Deschanel

Ebert also called Armond White a troll. You can't hate him for that, can you? :)
