Your favourite Kirk...just for fun...

Kirk evolved over the years. And while there were constants throughout he was subtly different as well. Certainly the Kirk we see in 1st season TOS isn't really the same as the Kirk we got in the latter TOS derived films.

I've liked Kirk pretty much throughout it all, but I really have to prefer the Kirk in 1st season TOS. He just works best for me.

The Kirk of Corbomite Maneuver, Charlie X ("Go to your room, or I'll pick you up and carry you there!"), and Balance of Terror. Those are the episodes where he really shines as a commander, so I chose Season 1.

I felt Shatner really nailed the character in WNMHGB and so that (and the 1st season) get my vote.

I object to the exclusion of the not yet cast role of Kirk in Star Trek XI!!!

 :scream:

I imagine there will be some discussion in the future of how the new guy stacks up compared with Shat. ;)

TWOK is ultimately what got me to be a SERIOUS Trek fan, so I voted for Early Movie Kirk.

I think I most like the Kirk from Wrath of Khan. He is a very real person there. Not as much at other times

What about James Cawley's Kirk? (Hey, don't put down the phaser's guys! Actually, I like his performance, especially in WEAT; he's improving.)

In all seriousness, it's hard to pick which era of Kirk I really liked. I voted for the first season, early Kirk because he was at his most Hornblower in those days. The burden of command seemed to weigh heavily on him. To those who make fun of Shatner's acting style, I point to episodes such as "The Enemy Within," "Conscience of a King," and "City on the Edge of Forever." Perhaps, Shatner's theatrical training made him too broad of an actor for television, but the role of Kirk was already larger than life and that's the way he approached it. Besides, it was the perfect counter to Nimoy's emotionally restrained, feelings brewing under the surface, portrayal of Spock.

I am also fond of the Kirk that had to face himself and the passage of time in TWOK.

"You showed me my son and I'd be happy to help. My son. My life that could've been, but wasn't."

"How do you feel?"

"Old. Worn out."

(Good Stuff.)

I voted for second season but now I wish I'd voted for the first. Shatner's best acting job was in ST:2. I like them all. :)
