Your favourite first officer?

Spock - I think he's the epitome of a first officer, loyal, supportive, knows when to step back but also when to speak up.

I voted Riker, but it's very close between him and Spock. Both are excellent officers in their own way, and good counterparts to their captains.

Kira is among my favorite characters on DS9, but I don't think of her as a first officer. Her relationship with Sisko solidified over time, but she wasn't the easiest person to work with in the beginning.

I originally said Riker, because I grew up on TNG, and he was always such a bold, strong leader; but lately I've come to begin watching TOS, and I absolutely love spock. I have such great respect for him. Just watched Dagger of the Mind; Kirk and McCoy are fighting like kids, and Spock just calmly suggests the solution.

Spock was the better character and Nimoy was the better actor, but I chose Riker because I thought we got a better feel for what a First Officer actually does. The fact is that the First Officer runs the ship and bosses the crew, while the Captain makes command decisions and deals with whatever the First Officer can't handle and sets the overall tone of the ship. Other than taking over the big chair when the Captain wasn't there, we got very few hints about what Spock did on a daily basis as First Officer.

Spock's my favorite, of course (he's my all-time favorite character), with Kira and Chakotay tied for second. Both excellent first officers, IMO.

I have no idea which is my least favorite between T'Pol and Riker, so let's put them both last in my personal poll.
