Your Favourite Beer?

i used to drink budwieser until my girlfriend persueded me to try london pride which apparently is a bitter or something tried porters too by the way i take it while lager is fizzy are all bitters/beers not? and are flat like water (but rather tasty though:))

As a northerner, I can say that it is true that "bitter" and "beer" generally mean the same thing to most people there. In the corner of the north that I'm from, if you ask for a pint of beer in a pub it will be assumed you mean a pint of bitter.

And make no mistake, people do know that bitters and lagers are both beers - so it's not done out of ignorance. My theory is that it's a throwback to the days before lager became popular - so bitter became synonymous with beer. Even though that's technically incorrect, people still know the score.

:D

Yes, well, there are vast stretches of the US where you order a "Coke" and they ask you "what flavor" to which you would reply, for example, "Sprite". Dialect, smialect!

Oh, and in the US, "lager" is something different altogether.

Because it doesn't originate in England. Like I said, you can get the foreign word 'Biere' on bottles of Lager and in the US it isn't the same as here. It's a language thing.

No it isn't. It's a slang thing.

The lager you have in England is BEER because LAGER IS BEER.

Lager is beer in England. Lager is beer in Germany, the United States and everywhere, in every language.

I think it's sad that the taste alone didn't persuade you not to drink bud. :(
