Diamond Dave, for sure. The Hagar era has a lot of great songs, I'm not one of those who think Van Hagar sucks or anything, and I don't begrudge him or his talent...but they certainly lost an edge that I enjoyed after Dave left.

This is pretty much how I feel, too.
I still can't believe there is no killer concert DVD for the old VH. I'd like to believe it exists, but is just hung up somewhere in a bunch of red tape. Maybe someday.
I like some of their stuff, but I've always thought Van Halen was (along with Aerosmith) one of the most overrated bands of all time. You're going to tell me that Van Halen is in the Rock 'N Roll Hall of Fame while Alice Cooper, Rush, the Moody Blues, Status Quo and at least a dozen other bands with far more worthy credentials are on the outside looking in? Then, of course, this is the Crock 'N Bull Hall of Shame we're talking about here.
That said, the Hagar era is musically superior to the Roth era, while lacking the former's sheer raw energy.

And I think in recent years it's been shown that the Van Halen's were most likely the assholes all these years, and not the singers.
