Your favorite TNG plot holes

- "Conundrum" (when the whole crew loses their memory): MacDuff makes himself Commander, subject to the captain's orders. The obvious choice would've been to make yourself captain so everyone had to obey.

He likely figured it'd be better to have some one who knew what they were doing take the ship into battle (the crews skills were still intact after all).

- "The Next Phase" (when Geordi and Ro are cloaked): obviously there's an issue when you can pass through walls, but the floor is as solid as ever. Geordi (and the rest of the gang) fail to reminisce about his debacle when they face the same tech again in "The Pegasus." They treat it a brand new idea.

Gravity plating?

- "Darmok": Data and Troi have a library of info on a species they supposedly know nothing about.

The examples the computer gives are all from different worlds: I'd assumed that the Tamareans just absorbed the myths from every world in the area they'd made contact with.

They also beamed out while the ship's shields were still up, bracing the doors.

It was a 60+ year old ship with buckling shields: I'm fine with that one.

If only they would've then used her in DS9, but no....... :(

But then we'd've missed out on Kira.

DS9 would have been a poorer show without Kira and Nana Visitor.

However, didn't they also try to have Ro on Voyager? That would have worked, I honestly would not weep over the loss of B'ellana.

If I remember right, though, Voyager was Roxann Dawson's break into directing. And like Frakes and Macneil, she's been even better behind the camera than in front of it.

And given how poorly Voyager used its cast, aside from a few lucky ones, not sure I'd wish it on anyone.

Yeah I don't want to know what they would have done to Ro on Voyager. My best guess is she would have had the role of being perpetually in the wrong, so that Janeway looks better in comparison.
But on the other hand, it would have saved us from B'ellana's Klingon crap.

I don't think that Jadzia was a great character, neither the writing nor the actress were particularly good. Yeah the concept of a Trill is pretty interesting, but it wasn't very well executed with Jadzia (didn't help that,e specially early on they waffled around on how exactly joining works)
However it was well executed with Ezri, so in my opinion they could have improved the whole situation by replacing Jadzia with Ezri in Season 4.

Wouldn't have been long before the crew would've nicknamed her Wrong Laren.

A bit more seriously, I'm glad they didn't do that. Would have been a grave disservice to both the Ro Laren and the Kathryn Janeway character.

Nah, if they had such a character, he'd have been a white male (I'd have said a straight white male, but since everyone on Trek was heterosexual in the Berman era, it would have been redundant).

Very much agreed. While Ro would have been an interesting addition, I'm at a loss as to what Voyager would have done with her that TNG hadn't already.

No, just everyone senior to Crusher in the command line. Given that she was the third highest ranked person in the ship's company, that doesn't necessarily have to be many people.

"The Naked Now" has Wesley gleefully demonstrating a portable tractor beam. Obviously, the biggest plot hole ever was if he built it from scratch, had it made from a replicator by telling it what to construct, or if he got that from one of those electronics kids like what high schoolers in electronics class got where, once you fitted into the breadboard a couple timer ICs, three transistors, 8 resistors, a capacitor, 9V hookup lead, 75 generic green LEDs, and 800 22-gauge wires, you could make a big arrow with LEDs flashing in a wave sequence that served no purpose for any practical reason but sure did look cool...

He also demonstrates a gizmo that can take random words from people and rearrange them in a way that sounds authentic. (Futurama had a field day with lampooning that... didn't his main computer console have any such rerouted functionality with those virtual pads that enable any type of keyboard/input console as needed? )

I'd more call that an FX glitch.

In production terms, definitely. In-universe... well, maybe not really in all honesty. Still fun to think about... granted, in season 1 and the common complaint was how "Data was the most human and the others were robots, waah", the evil universe counterparts would be a bunch of robots plus Lore... Hmmm, I'd watch...

Ro's choices are limited.
  • Is the one to ally with the Kazon in place of Seska; stays behind in the Delta Quadrant as a result
  • Takes over from Chakotay and become the first officer
  • Takes over from Tuvok as the security officer
  • Takes over from Kim as ops officer
  • Lead a Maquis to mutiny against the rest of the crew, with the encounter with Arturis being a possible catalyst, with the resistance to the Borg compared to the resistance to the Cardassians by both the Bajorans and Maquis
  • Try and get revenge for the loss of their Maquis comrades on someone. Meaning they would have to encounter more Cardassians lost in the Delta Quadrant.
  • Fulfills the role that Seven had with Naomi
  • Develops friendship with fellow Maquis B'Elanna Torres
Its more evidence as to why VOY should have kept Seska around. As drama between Ro and Seska alone would have been palpable, to say the least.

I've come to dislike how they had most of the entire crew scouring the planet to go get Data back from Borg Planet, even if it did give us Acting-Captain Crusher. Were all the kids down there too?

That search for Data was something that has made me lose interest in those episodes. Haven't visited them for a long time.
The entire ship, families and children included must go to find Data, really? It was the only way?
