Your favorite thing about EACH of the "Star Trek" incarnations

We Trekkies are notorious for focusing on the negative and nit-picking (and I myself am no exception to this). So for this thread, you have to say something you LIKE about EVERY one of the "Star Trek" incarnations. Even if you've never seen one series, there's surely something you can find to like (if only the title font).

Here's my personal list:

The Original Series: The light-hearted campy tone, Kirk's "Shatnering," and the Redshirt deaths

The Animated Series: Those funny aliens that look sort of like slug vacuum cleaners, and cartoon-Kirl's cartoon Shatnering

The Next Generation: The uniforms, Data and Geordi

Deep Space Nine: The characters

Voyager: The characters

Enterprise: Trained diplomat Captain Archer threatening to "water" the sacred trees of the race his ship desperately needs to make peace with; if I live to be 107, that will never stop being funny. (I am mature.)

The JJ Abrams Movies: Zachery Quinto is perfect as young Spock

Discovery: The ship and uniforms look AWESOME

Your turn.

I posted this in the wrong section. Is it possible for a mod to move it to "General Discussion," where I meant to post it?

The Original Series: The friendship between Spock and McCoy. It did (and does) my "weird kid" heart good to see two such different people really value each other.
The Animated Series: That so many of the original actors were brought back to voice their characters. I loved having the chance to hear them all again.
The Next Generation: Patrick Stewart, arguably the best actor to grace a Trek main cast.
Deep Space Nine: The marvelous, multifaceted Garak! And Andrew Robinson played him so well.
Voyager: A bold and exciting premise.
Enterprise: I was recently reminded of how much I loved both parts of "In a Mirror, Darkly." Stylish, witty, and clever.
The JJ Abrams Movies: Karl Urban is absolutely channeling De Kelley to play McCoy.
Discovery: I very much liked what we saw of the relationship between Georgiou and Michael, at least until things went south between them. Also: holy shit, it's Michelle Yeoh!

Great topic.

The Original Series: Kirk, Spock, Bones - The Holy Trinity of cool. I love the energy, the colour and wonder of this science fiction. The corn and the message. I enjoy this show over and over.

The Next Generation: Picard's voice is seductive. Data a standout. The Borg. I thank this show for bringing life back to the franchise.

Deep Space Nine: Kira. The concept to not be Starship based was brave and offered a world of 'politics'.

Voyager: Everything. I'm an unashamed fan :adore:

Enterprise: Scott Bakula. Porthos!

Original/Next Gen Movies: Generations.

JJ Abrams Movies: The effort to give likeness to the original characters and the sense of 'big'.

The Animated Series: Seriously I draw a blank. Until I found this site just over a year ago I didn't know there was one. However I think I've seen some memes using it!

Discovery: Isaacs/Lorca. It's new. Its family.

TOS: Awesome, iconic characters and a sense of wonder and adventure that was never reproduced.

TNG: Bright, intelligent and engaging family-friendly stories in a world we'd all love to live in.

DS9: A different approach to the franchise (space station, arc storytelling, etc) with a rich setting and engaging collection of characters.

VOY: Awesome production design

ENT: Fun, engaging story arcs in the later seasons

JJTrek: Effective, extremely fun action/adventure ride with a phenomenal cast.

DSC: First Star Trek that makes me feel like I'm on a JOURNEY with these characters as they develop bit by bit.

Original series: Ongoing emotion versus logic debate centered around the big three.
TNG: Data and the philosophical debate about what makes us human.
DS9: Managing to walk the line of criticizing Roddenberrian idealism while at the same time backing it.
Voyager: Some of the individual episodes were good.
Enterprise: Season 4.
Discovery: Interaction of Lorca's utilitarianism with Burnham's slipping grasp on idealism.

Original Series: Of course, the series that set it all up. The friendship between Kirk, McCoy, Spock. Series that has idealistic Federation, but not yet stifled with those ideas of perfection, "more evolved sensibilities", or immutable prime directives to the degree the 24th series had them. Adventure.
TNG: Patrick Stewart, who really brought Picard to life. Data. Discussions about the nature of existence and ethical quandaries. Seeing how a starship crew in a "more civilized age" would act (for better or worse), contrasted to the slightly 'wild west' feel TOS had, even if it was only in a good sense.
DS9: Adding a scale of grey to the black -and-white, and as Jirinpanthosa put it above so well " Managing to walk the line of criticizing Roddenberrian idealism while at the same time backing it.". Adding humor (with that, I don't necessarily mean 'comedy episodes'), and the definite sense that the Federation (or the entire AQ for that matter) isn't just run by humans. Larger, sweeping storylines that still left room for unconnected individual episodes.
Voyager: While most of the (starfleet part of the) crew are closer to "perfection" than in DS9, they somehow still come across as more human than in TNG -- probably because they are shown to have to cope with difficult circumstances and a touch of humour has been added -- making it less stilted an experience than TNG, even though I love that series. A sense of family that gradually grows over the 7 years. Sometimes experimenting with unconventional story ideas and episode structures(example: 'Muse').
Enterprise: Showing us a very different 22nd century quadrant. Vulcans are shown to have their own factions, humanity is the underdog for once -- at least at the beginning of the series. The 22nd century Alpha quadrant seems about as stable as the DQ in Voyager. The crew isn't quite 'there' yet. Season 4 was picking up some serious steam.

TAS, Discovery: Not seen them, so no comment. I consider movies as (sometimes repeated) one-time outings, so no comments on them either.

TOS: Spock & McCoy / Uhura
TAS: Lt M’Ress (and introducing the Caitians in general)
TNG: The Borg, when the Borg were scary cybernetic space zombies / Worf’s parents (small thing but pure genius)
DS9: Nog’s entire character arc / The Dominion War / Jadzia Dax
VOY: Captain Proton
ENT: Shran (and reintroducing the Andorians in general)
Disco: Michael Burnham / Tilly / The USS Shenzhou and the Michelle Yeoh
as the Mirror Universe Terran Emperor!!

STAR TREK should've started here ... it should've finished here. The rest of the franchise is just gravy!

TOS: Entertaining & exceedingly charming. To a limited extent, it was even pioneering, in certain respects.
TAS: Incredibly cute. Incredibly boring.
DS9: Started out refreshingly different, but once Worf came onboard, everything got too Klingony, too warcentric, without the writing or budget to pull it off and pull it off well. But I love Jadzia Dax, thoughout, she's my favourite Science Officer in the whole franchise!
VOY: The texture, the flavour of this show is very TNG-like and the show's quite wonderful, as a result.
ENT: Season 3 was good.
DISC: There are certain, eh ..."trendy" ... aspects of this current series that I would definitely dispose of, personally, but I am trying to let the show grow on me ...

Hey man, if nothing else, the uniforms on STD are pretty spiffy. And the show's abbreviation is also quite humorous, if you're mature like me anyway.

TOS: The sense of adventure.

TAS: The wide assortments of aliens and some of the out there plots.

TNG: The grandeur and moral core of the series.

DS9: All of it.

VOY: The concept (not necessarily the execution).

ENT: Season 3.

NuTrek: Some of the aliens (not the Blingons).

STD: ...

TOS: Kirk-fu, of course. The deadliest martial art in the universe.

My favourite technique is the dreaded buttbutt:

TNG: the cerebral aspect of it all, the ethical dilemmas, Picard's speeches,... TNG was often an exploration of ethical human behaviour and standards, which is why I still regard it as the best Trek.
TOS had done it as well, but not as often nor was it as comitted to it when it did.

DS9: Garak.

VOY: The theme. Best of all Trek, even better than the TMP/TNG theme, which was already very good.

ENT: Phlox.

DSC: The CGI & uniforms. Not much else good...

I tell you and I tell you true:
I would've preferred outfits more like this for STD!

Though I love TNG heart & soul, with a zealot's passion ... I've always hated their uniforms. Fans bitch about Dee's catsuits, but they're all vulgar eyesores. You know how, in Lord of the Rings, Sauron poured into The One Ring his malice and cruelty? Well ... into TNG's uniforms was poured heapin' helpin's of VELVEETA®. Three decades later one would suspect that STAR TREK uniforms had gotten better. They have not. STD should've given me, 2takesfrakes, a crack at it. But no ... Trekkies crave VELVEETA®, they get VELVEETA®. Although, strangely enough, the STD abbreviation never really got a chuckle out of me. But if the humour of it helps it stay on viewer's minds, then I hope they're laughing Loud ... & ... Hearty!!! Despite the fact that I hate the Art Direction of STD, I'm pleased that it's swinging off its own bat, just for the hell of it. That was always important to me, for the next series. And I'm happy that TPTB are talking about putting even more varieties of STAR TREK onscreen than what Rick Berman tried to. That's how it SHOULD be! Wow ... like ... 50 years later, "they" wake up to this concept. Keep it comin' ...

Star Trek - Fun and imaginitive, not yet tied into all the Trek Tropes.
Star Trek: The Animated Series - While not canon, its fun so see what could have been.
Star Trek: The Next Generation - Grew up watching this with my mom. I enjoy seeing this crew and I love the more relaxed feel of the ship.
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - I didn't originally like this series as I had only seen a few episodes. But after watching it I really enjoyed the religious elements.
Star Trek: Voyager - Fond memories of watching this with my family at dinner time. I liked the good stuff we got. I just wish they would have tried a bit harder.
Movies I through VI - TMP is probably my fave I love the new ship and new uniforms and just the general 70s vibe. The other movies had good stories and fun adventures.
TNG Movies - First Contact is definitely my favorite. The others were fun and while sometimes corny the adventures wee enjoyable.

It's just sad that we are currently in the longest period of not having any form of new Star Trek production. I mean, it's been 16 years since Nemesis. The next largest gap was between Star Trek and The Animated Series which was four years. We're already FOUR TIMES that long.

Are you expecting someone to take the bait?

TOS: The fun of it all.
TNG: The evolution from TOS.
DS9: The Sisko.
VOY: Tuvok.
ENT: The pre-Federation conflict between Vulcans and Andorians.
DIS: The props (mainly phasers, tricorders, & communicators)

TOS Movies: The sense of adventure.
TNG Movies: The First Contact uniforms.
Kevin Timeline Movies: Kirk.

To be honest, the only thing keeping me from doing something like this is how serious the mods seem about anti-troll security. If this place were as lax as DeviantArt's forums, I'd be having the time of my life with all the different ways to troll my fellow Trekkies.

I don't care if anyone responds. In fact I'd prefer if no one did. That way I can pretend everyone agrees with me.

Your signature makes it look like even you don't agree with yourself.

Still, 12-13 years since the last Star Trek is a long time. Maybe one day they'll make new movies and a new series.
