Your 5 Most Underrated Eipsodes

I'm not sure if these have been underrated 'round these parts, but here are five favorites of mine I rarely see in the top ten lists:

The Survivors
Eye of the Beholder
Frame of Mind
Night Terrors
The Perfect Mate
Night Terrors! Also a good choice. I've seen people say they dislike this episode, but I, personally love it. It's one of the few times Troi's telepathy angle was played smartly, as well as the well written & acted sleep deprivation effects

The Naked Now - One of my early memories of TNG, Love it.

Encounter at Farpoint - Just brilliant, great story, great score, great episode.

The Royale - This always gets dirt, but I never got why.

Ensigns of Command - I just always loved this episode.

Emergence - I liked it very much, sure sort of weak story, but I always liked it.

Manhunt - Good Troy story

The Last Outpost - I also don't understand the hate for this one, maybe it's because I know how loved the Ferengi actually became.

This is to name a new, there are only a few episodes I try to avoid..

I think most of season 2 is underrated (it tends to get lumped in as "season 1 and 2 are lame, season 3 is when it gets better" attitude). However, specific eps, in no particular order:

1. The Royale - how can anyone not love this. When TNG began it seemed to carry over all the serious bits of TOS, without the absurd/funny bits. "The Royale" reminded us there's room for all manner of bizarre in Trek!

2. Family - yeah, people often say they like it, but it's not just 'good', or even 'really good' it is AMAZING! :)

3. Heart Of Glory - OK, TNG went on to do Klingons bigger and better but I just can't forget when I first saw this ep. Compared to eps like "Home Soil" and "Too Short A Season" that aired before it, it was a breath of fresh air. Genuine feeling of danger, pacing - great.

4. The Schzoid Man - just a solid episode of fun.

5 - The Child - pretty much for those first few minutes. That score! The grand look around the bridge. Riker with a beard!? Worf and Geordi in yellow uniforms!?!

I was going to mention "Lower Decks" and "Measure Of A Man" - but I HOPE that everyone knows how great they are. If not, then consider them bumping Schzoid Man and The Child off the list above!

The Loss - Maybe because I'm a huge Marina Sirtis fan, but I enjoyed seeing her get to play Troi in a different light. I thought this episode was at least above average but it's often cited as one of the series's worst.

Loud as a Whisper - Well acted and rather bizarre episode, kind of cerebral. Considering the strange subject matter I feel the performances are very strong.

Tin Man - "New Life and Civilizations" this is what Trek is supposed to be about. I guess this is is disliked primarily because of the Tam Elbrum (sp?) character but he didn't bother me.

Clues / Allegiance - Points already made upthread, but these are two of the best "capsule" episodes of TNG. I feel TNG worked best when it played mystery stories, and these are two of the best (and often overlooked) examples.

"Frame of Mind" comes to... mind! Braga's best script for the show, barring only perhaps "All Good Things".

Oh I forgot about Family, that is a GREAT episode. It really showcases Patricks acting ability. One of my favs, for sure.

I have to agree. Granted, season 2 has its major duds, but there are some really fun shows from that year.

YES! It's zany, it's over-the-top, but it's a fun romp. Sam Anderson is just dripping with sardonic delight the whole time.

WORF: What do you call this planet?
SAM ANDERSON: Earth. What do you call it?
ME:

I'd also have to add to this list:

Timescape, Contagion, Masks, and The Next Phase.
