Or maybe there's nothing to know. You can't assume there actually is going to be a "time travel to fix things" plot just because you'd like there to be.
Who said I assumed anything? I believe the word I used was "hoped". It's only the first episode of the season and left alot of unanswered questions. While the previews for the upcoming season lead me to believe we are stuck with this time jump, there's still room for hope.
While I am a little pissed that they appear to have gotten rid of Artemis, Wally, and Kal'Dur, I am willing to give the writers a chance when it comes to this time jump. As for the episode itself, I thought it was pretty good for the intro to the new time period. So far I like most of the new characters, and the invasion plot seems to be off to a good start. Blue Beetle, Wonder Girl and Batgirl are all characters I've been curious about for some time now, so I'm hoping we get some more time with them. I'm hoping that after this one they will focus on a smaller group of characters for each episode, because if they try to keep jumping around between all of these different teams I could see it getting a little choppy, and we probably wouldn't be able to get as deep into the characters as we did with the smaller season 1 team.
bit of a strange time jump, 5 years, not sure about Dick going from the Robin in season 1 to the fully aged and competent Nightwing we saw there... though happy to see Nightwing, Batgirl and the rest appearing...
though honestly think they should rename it Teen Titans now, that's how it feels from a comic book readers perspective...
I'm actually really excited by this new season and looking forward to what's gonna come.
Don't get me wrong - I really miss Kaldur, Artemis, and Wally already, and I'm really curious about where they and Roy are now, but this is a Greg Weisman show - these things will be explained as needed.
I love seeing more-grown-up Dick, and Nightwing's always been a favorite; I'd quibble about the particular costume but it's such a minor thing (and hey at least they didn't go with the disco monstrosity ). Plus, I'm looking forward to seeing an animated Nightwing that's more like his comic counterpart (and the one from Under the Red Hood) instead of the bitter and jaded DCAU Dick Grayson.
I hope Zee and Rocket will still have a sizable role to play even with them being full-on Leaguers now; Rocket especially we just met. I wonder if we'll get any more explanation about why Dick, Connor, and M'Gann are still with the Team (have they still not taken a name in five years?) or if it's simply that they feel like they're best suited as older members of it?
As to the new characters, I'm really looking forward to getting to know them better. Blue Beetle, Tim Drake, Wonder Girl and Batgirl especially; I'm already liking the dynamic between Nightwing and Tim. Was Dick's "Just don't die" a hint at a past tragedy, specifically Jason Todd? Beast Boy had very little to do, though it's interesting that he's apparently taken over the role of "trophy collector" - I wonder if we'll see the souvenir room and have it lead to Wild Mass Guessing by the fans? A very minor thing, but as a JSA fan I'd have liked to see Courtney Whitmore's Stargirl. Things have definitely changed for Mal and Karen as well - he's a much more subdued character. It strikes me that Bumblebee's powers are very similar to Marvel's Wasp, that's interesting.
I'm really not much of a fan of Lagoon Boy at this point, but having the second thing he does on the show be shatter the Connor/M'Gann pairing (which is a completely normal development for teens of course) might have a small part to play in that. I loved Jaime's "interactions" with the Scarab - do Tim and Lagoon Boy not know about it?
It was striking to see the team operating in a much more military-like fashion in the field; simply the natural development and training, or somehow influenced by Captain Atom who seems to be chairing the League now? Tim Curry's G. Gordon Godfrey was a hoot, and I loved the obvious riff on Glenn Beck. I also really liked the episode ended in a very similar way to the opening two-parted - in some ways, this episode mirrors that in general.
That's what I think, that some time in the intervening five years Barry was killed and Wally stepped up to become Flash. Speculation below regarding the upcoming videogame:
The tagline is "One will rise. One will fall. One will die." The blurb on Wiki for an upcoming episode mentions Nightwing and co. trying to "salvage" a fallen teammate. I'm thinking this is Aqualad, who at some point within the last five years - perhaps specifically during the plot of the game - discovers he's Ocean Master's (right? or Black Manta's?) son and is somehow turned. Wally "rises" to become Flash - though that would seem to require the loss of Barry? - and Artemis is killed. Alternately, Robin proves himself to such an extent he takes the moniker Nightwing.
The five year jump doesn't bother me, I remember the Legion Superheroes doing this and it was fun filling in the missing years.
I also like how the new members cover the whole history of the Titans, Mal & Bumblebee from the classic Teen Titans, Beast Boy from the New Teen Titans, Wondergirl from Young Justice, Lagoon Boy from the missing year and Blue Beetle from the most recent Titans.
Just too bad Supergirl didn't show up during the Lobo vs Batgirl & Wondergirl fight.
I wonder if we'll get any more explanation about why Dick, Connor, and M'Gann are still with the Team (have they still not taken a name in five years?)

Yeah, I guess that makes sense as it always has. But doesn't it ever get confusing for them? I mean, even some sort of internal name that only they and the League use you'd think would be good.
I found the time jump a little jarring, simply because it felt like the Season One team was just getting started and still had a lot of stories left in them. I'm sure the five year gap and the absence of Kid Flash, Artemis, and Aqualad will be explained (though, to be honest, Wally's the only one I really missed) in due time, but for now it's kind of thrown me off.
I don't mind this new group so far, though. I'm a huge fan of Dick as Nightwing, so it's cool to see him in that persona now. And holy crap, Blue Beetle is hilarious! I have to admit I'm not terribly familiar with Blue Beetle. What's up with him talking to himself? Is his suit sentient or something?
Ah, interesting. And this isn't the original Blue Beetle, right? Was the original one like that? I'm afraid that outside of the Batman family and most of the main Justice Leaguers, my DC knowledge isn't as up-to-snuff as my Marvel knowledge.
I'm half sure that original blue beetle was just made up for the origin of the second blue beetle post crisis, but Alan Moore wanted to write a story about the Blue Beetle (and Captain Atom and the Question.) but they wouldn't let him. Moore moved things around, called him Night Owl, and that's Watchmen.
Genius industrialist Acrobat with a tactical bug blimp, who couldn't get the scarab to work after the original Blue beetle on his deathbed said "take this magic bug, it will give you great power to fight evil."
The most prominent one was Ted Kord. He was basically a guy who dressed up in a blue beetle costume and had some tech. Essentially a poor man's Batman. Kord got his brains blown out by the sponsor of the JLA turned supervillain, Maxwell Lord.
The guy before him was Dan Garrett who first had the scarab, but couldn't access its tech.
The current one is the first one who can use the scarab's full powers. In the comics, the technology is on such an advanced level that they are able to provide a defense and offense against magic.
The creators of the scarab are an Alien empire called the Reach who have tangled and won against the Green Lantern Corps. The scarabs are their infiltrators and fifth columnists.

"Team" is probably short for covert ops team. I'm sure that the other reason it does not have a more grandiose name is that it is essentially a subdivision of the Justice League. This world avoids having all of the overlaping super teams by just saying that everyone eventually belongs to the JL. Thus there is no need for the JSA, TT etc.
