Young Justice-Tonight!

Yeah, I do agree that it would have been better to see a little more Superman/Superboy interplay. Other than that I loved the last two episodes. I think the way things played out worked perfectly. I was a little shocked that they revealed everything in one episode, but I thought in the end it actually ended up working out really well. I'm curious to see exactly how much of a role the Light will play in the Invasion story. I'm assuming it will have something to do with the Phase 2 Vandal and Klarion mentioned and the missing 16 hours. Is Invasion going to be one big story, or is it going to play out like this season did with smaller independent stories playing into one big arc?

I saw at least a couple of other new characters:

Lobo and Blue Beetle (Jaime Reyes), plus someone who might be Adam Strange and a blond girl who might be Supergirl.

Actually I think the blond is Wondergirl since she has the lasso, plus Cartoon network ran next weeks' DC nation promo and you can see the W thing on her costume

Oh, you mean it's
the Cassie Sandsmark Wonder Girl, as opposed to the Donna Troy WG who's appearing in the Super Best Friends Forever shorts.

I'm pretty sure I saw
Zatana in Fate's costume, minus the helmut
.

I think for part of that 16 hours the villains used Black Canary for recreational purposes.

If Vandal Savage has been around for 50,000 years, how come he isn't rich? Wait, maybe he is rich.

I guess Dr. Ivo underestimated Red Tornado, who did pretty good for character named after a fat woman who wore a pot on her head.

Uhh, he's the head of the Light, an organization with immense resources and power. I think it's axiomatic that he's extremely rich.

Anyway, there are a lot of problems with the assumption that immortality guarantees immense wealth. There are a number of legal and practical obstacles to that. There's a good discussion of it in these two posts:

http://lawandthemultiverse.com/2010/12/03/immortality-and-the-law/

http://lawandthemultiverse.com/2011/01/10/immortals-and-compound-interest/

What I'm wondering about more is why Savage isn't ruling the world already. If the emergence of the Justice League (something that happened only a few years ago in the YJ universe) is the biggest threat to his plans he's ever faced, then that implies his plans have been relatively unimpeded for the past 50,000 years. So what's he been doing all that time?

Then again, his motivation seemed to be the belief that chaos and conflict are necessary to drive evolution (basically the philosophy of the Shadows on Babylon 5), so maybe the idea is that he's been secretly stirring up the wars and hatred and violence throughout human history. In which case he would've stayed behind the scenes so that people wouldn't realize they were being manipulated.

So what's he been doing all that time?
His back story in DC Comics is that he was basically all the major conquerors and villains in history such as Cain, Genghis Khan, Vlad Tepes, Julius Caesar, Alexander the Great, Otto van Bismarck etc. It's the emergence of metahumans that has started to impede his plans for conquest (or directing human evolution as he says in YJ). He has also claimed to be the inventor of the wheel (he killed the real guy who invented it) and was one of the first to practice human cannibalism.

That was an awesome episode.

Great to see the kids take on their mentors. It's a good thing that Queen Mera and others can find a cure and Klarion isn't an too good at mind control, or they'll be dead. Superboy vs Superman and Robin vs Batman was cool. Nice teamwork. I'm glad Superman is finally starting to talk to Conner. I'm glad they didn't make Superman Mr.Perfect and actually have his character grow like this. Hopefully we'll see more next season. And at the end, its' Kid Flash+Artemis, Superboy+Ms Martian, Robin+Zantanna, and Aqualad+Rocket kiss. So, Red Arrow is a clone like Superboy, and they real Speedy is missing an arm. Oh yeah, did anyone else notice that the JL members with the 16 unaccounted hours are the Justice Lords. Too funny.

What strikes me about this version of Vandal Savage is that -- although he has a resemblance to the VS from the movie Justice League: Doom (which has the same character designer), he differs in having three scars slashed across his face -- a look that fans of an earlier Greg Weisman series should find very familiar. Indeed, two of the three scars are even in the same place as on Gillecomgain in Gargoyles, though Vandal's uppermost scar is above his right eye rather than directly across it.

I'm not sure it makes sense for Vandal to have scars, though, given that he's supposed to have perfect regenerative abilities.

The team and their allies sure came up with a Starro cure quickly.

Looked like the kryptonite didn't hit Connor anywhere near as hard as Clark. Makes sense.

Perfect physical regenerative powers would leave scars.

That's how our bodies work.

The scars just form faster.

Now, if his abilities were magic, or using science that creates healing "differently" without cars rather than the same as us but a thousand times faster, that's a horse of another colour.

Morrison had him lose an eye that didn't grow back.

However he needs replacement tissue and organs from his descendants.

His skin is not 50 thousand years old.

Sure it takes 7 years for skin at the bottom to work it's way to the top and shed, but odds are that the flesh Vandal is wearing is skin he skinned off some of his children recently that that scar might not even be his, but some accident in someone elses life he inherited.

Not that vain?

The animated Vandal Savages have never been portrayed as such. Only as immortal with a healing factor. While we haven't seen him injured in Young Justice, he was injured in Doom and healed immediately.

Seen that movie.

It should have been shelfed.

Awful.

A horrid thought.

If his healing factor was "perfect" the epidermis wouldn't degrade, even though there was more skin growing and trying to rise to the surface.

the only way for vandal not to explode would be to manually remove his outer layers of skin before he gets into trouble and bloats like blooming supercancer.

I suppose an acid bath would be easier than peeling him, or some sort of necrotizing faciltis?

If Savage did heal in such a way that left scars, then presumably after 50,000 years as a warrior and conqueror, his skin would be nothing but scars.

Immortality from a cursed monkey paw can be righteously hilarious.

Yes, you are right.

His Immortality from the dial H for H.E.R.O device would be a balanced powerset that taks into account his human generalities.

Or has that been retconned with the New 52?

I know it wasn't mentioned in the recent Star Trek vs. Legion of Superheroes crossover when they showed Vandal Savage's secret origin.
