You old FART!

I remember when my high school got a new "computer" in 1972. It was a glorified calculator with primitive LED display.

Its name? WANG

Yes, we all snickered about it every time we were near it or heard a teacher say its name out loud. (After a while, they just referred to it as "the computer".)

I remember my first Apple IIc and printing 100-page scripts on a daisy-wheel printer. I'd start the job, go out to a movie, and when I got home it was either just half done or the paper jammed on Page 2. And the noise was so lovely ...

I was 28 when the Macintosh was first released. I remember the odd feeling of using a mouse for the first time and going off the mouse pad or the table a few times. I also remember that the first time I sat down at one, someone told me to point and click. They forgot to say click TWICE.

I remember Trimline telephones. They had ILLUMINATED push buttons IN THE HANDLE, and looked so friggin' futuristic. I still own one in case the power goes out. I can still call.

I can't believe in 40 YEARS we haven't gotten past the moon, manned space flight-wise. (Thanks, Mr. Nixon)

I remember watching my uncle's color TV when one of the only shows broadcast in color in the early 1960's was Bonanza.

And as an advanced student, I was frequently an educational guinea pig. I was one of two students in my school that used the Cyclo-Teacher by World Book. And both that other student and I were the only ones to make it all the way to RED in the SRA reading cards.

Ah, I remember SRA. I loved those. :bolian:

I remember reading Rendezvous With Rama when it was first serialized in Galaxy
I still have those in a box around here somewhere. I loved Galaxy.
Me, too. I still have those two Rama issues on my shelf (the ones I actually bought, not replacements from eBay or anything). Those were the days....

I remember being put off by the colors of the uniforms, because it didn't match my mental image.

Joe, colored

What color had you imagined they were?

Hmmm. I can't recall now, oddly enough.

But one other thing that makes me feel old is that I can remember being excited when the episodes came out on VHS.

I rented them from Blockbuster two at a time and made EP copies for myself to rewatch.

Joe, ancient

^In them b/w days there was no Trek to be found in Denmark -soooo I watched it all with German voices! -maaan I feel old.

This thread is actually making me feel young, which is nice. I hadn't realised it was ten years since DS9 ended though, feels like about 4 years at most.

I remember Quasar TV's. And the commercial for them..."Quaaaasar"

I remember pulling the phone cord until all the curls were out as I stretched it so I could talk to a friend out of earshot of my parents.

I remember that if someone called your house and you weren't there, you just missed the call.

I remember how amazing touch tone seemed when I first saw it. It seemed so fancy.

I stood on tiptoes to push my dad's 8 Tracks into the player. Elvis was my favorite.

I remember my favorite pair of pants were red with big white polka dots all over them. And bell bottoms. And my favorite shirt was polyester. And orange. And I wore them together.

I remember "sit on it" and "kiss my grits."

I remember when there were huge billboards with the Marlboro Man on them, that he seemed cool, and that almost everyone I knew smoked.

I remember when I could crawl all over the Toyota Corolla my dad owned while he sped down the highway and not worry about whether a cop noticed or not.

^ You do have an excellent point, we are young. That's good to know, I'd hate to be old lol

It's not so bad to be old and have accomplished pretty much every goal you had as child. There's a certain sense of satisfaction that comes with that.

Wow, yeah! I remember cars that didn't even *have* seatbelts!

I'm just depressed that I used to use this phone, which at the time was geeky cool.

Good old twelve hour battery life and and the ability to store an overwhelming three messages!

Stuff that makes me feel old? Let's see...

- The Beastie Boys' Paul's Boutique came out 20 years ago! I was 14.

- I graduated from high school 16 years ago. Geez!

- Teenagers look like children to me.

- I remember when freakin' pagers were the popular "in" device.

- There was a time when the NES 8-bit system was the most advanced and high-tech thing I'd ever seen.

- There was even a time when the Disney Channel was actually good.
