You May Hate Superman Returns. But this have been so much worse.

The good folks on www.chud.com have posted a vid (taken from youtube) showing concept art from Tim Burton's Superman Lives.

Now, that's bad enough. Like Superman as Borg. But if you wait till the end of the 55 second long clip, you get a pic of Nicholas Cage as Superman, in some sort of silly plastic looking suit. And the mullet from hell.

Sadly, I am not gifted with the Oscar Wilde-esque command of the English language that would be used to describe the whole effect but fortunately you can marvel at the Supermullet yourself.

I've read a few of the "Superman Lives/Reborn" scripts. They are terrible and those in charge didn't get the character at all.

Two of these? *gets more bleach for brain*

Gods I hope more than anything that Cage Pic is photoshoped. I mean someone somewhere had to call shennigans on Burton as he took that test shot if it wasn't.

Right? Right?

Vons :wtf:

Fake or not, some things cannot be unseen. :wtf:

Remember, though, that if this was real, they might have just had Cage put the costume on, and never mind things like hairstyle and the like. Sort of like all those early publicity photos of Pierce Brosnan with a beard used when he was chosen as James Bond, or the wacky goth hairstyle Matt Smith had in his first photos as the newly chosen 11th Doctor Who.

The costume designs here remind me of the look DC was going for when they did the Red/Blue Superman arc. It didn't look that far removed from the post-Doomsday stuff DC played around with.

I don't get the hatred towards Superman Returns, frankly. I thought they did a good job with it, myself. I enjoyed it a lot more than the overrated Dark Knight.

Kevin Smith's script was okay considering what Jon Peters forced him to work and put in the script with. The others are horrid. They had so many problems with this project it makes you wonder if they were all on crack during this process.

I actually kinda like Burton's take on things. At least it would have been an interesting, stylish failure instead of an insipid, milquetoast failure.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

If I remember right, the rumor at the time was that the studio shelved the film once they saw test-shots of Cage in costume.

This picture might be a confirmation of that! :alienblush: :alienblush:

Still waiting to see that Brainiac versus Polar Bear fight... the most dangerous predator on Earth!

Yeah, I mean, at least this would have been interesting.

If we got that instead of returns people would not say it sucked but at least it was interesting. They would walk out and simply say it sucks. You wouldn't have returns to compare it to, you'd just have a different crappy movie.

Yeah, I mean, at least this would have been interesting.

Oh, absolutely. Probably as interesting as Burton's take on Planet of the Apes...

Is that really a positive selling point? :p

Very true.

I don't think that word means what you think it means.

One of the funniest things about Kevin Smith's telling of his experience is when he says that Peters ordered him not to show Superman flying because he thought it was "gay" or maybe that was the costume...so he wrote in the script that we see a red/blue blur streaking across the screen! Hmm...Red/Blue Blur where I have heard that term before?

Wasn't this the film where the plan was for Superman to have a black costume and silver S shield?

Which I think was used in the Death and Life of Superman series (I've got the novelisation so now sure what the actual comic run was called).
