Re: You Know They Could Blend the Next Movie Into a Post-Nemesis/TOS S
I don't necessarily want all the old characters back and I do want to see original characters in the story. But if Kira fits into some future scenario, let's bring her into the mix.
Even though nobody in the story should know what the situation is - unless Spock somehow manages to get back to the old universe and confirm that it's still there - the script make it crystal clear that that is what the writers say happened. And even if Spock did confirm the continuing existence of another universe in which Romulus is gone and Vulcan is still around, who's to say that that is exactly the same universe as he left? Even if one atom is out of place, it could be different. But Abrams told us the old universe is still ok, and that's good enough for me.
I could see the characters being integrated back into the story - TV or movies - but so far down the road that all of them (and TNG) would have to be recast. Several of the DS9 characters are strong enough that they would be worth recasting. And from TNG and VOY, there are a handful I'd like to see again as well. The future of the JJ Abrams-verse will still most likely have a Kira and a Data and maybe even a Tuvok. They just won't look precisely the same.I didn't particularly care for VOY or DS9, I could still see their casts getting some play in the movies ... before NEM crashed and burned. Their chance at the big screen is lost.

The writers made a pretty strong statement that we should believe this is a parallel universe, which either always existed, and has been influenced by Spock and Nero's actions, or was created by Spock and Nero's actions. Whatever the case, we should not believe that the old universe has ceased to exist. We don't know if the future still exists as we remember (did they branch time, or did they rewrite time - unknown by us)
