You are so...SAD!!

Benjamine after Jadzia's death, in total sadness over her coffin, is one that comes to mind.

Lwaxanna was never a big favorite of mine (although I don't hate her or anything), but that scene where she talks about when her other little girl, the sister Deanna never knew she had, had died...well, golly. Choked me right up. It might be the situation rather than the acting -- very few things are more tragic than losing a child, after all, particularly if there is any way the parent can blame him/herself. It kind of chokes me up thinking about it right now!

I thought of another last night, which was discussed about a month ago in the Voyager forum. I can't remember the name of the episode, but it's when the Doctor rediscovers a deleted memory and breaks down. The scene at the end where they stay with him and try to help him, instead of reprogramming got me first time.

I always felt a little sad when Suder dies in Basics (?) always got me. For his characters struggles, which came off nicely seeing as it was his second appearance, it seemed to be heroic death.

Oh, yeah, that was a heartbreaker. The beginning was great and the ending was fabulous, though I must say that I didn't like all the middle parts as much as the beginning and the end (e.g., the bar scene with Riker was just stupid). But a great episode overall. And s-o-o-o-o-o sad!

The music during the battle in "The Siege of AR-558" was sad. It was truly a great piece of music, fit for a feature film. I liked the touches of it used in other parts of the episode ("We hold", and at the end when Sisko is talking to Kira .. "We must remember.")

YES! I watched this a couple of weeks ago for the first time since its debut. It hit me like a ton of bricks. It perfectly got it across that you can have all the snazzy space battles you want, but in essence, war is not fun. Ever.

I've got to admit to nearly tearing up during the flashback scenes in What You Leave Behind, and the Doctor saying goodbye to his daughter in Real Life.

It's strange what gets a reaction out of you, isn't it? :p

"Ties of Blood and Water"...I cried SO hard as Kira described Tekeny's final moments, and then went to bury him next to her biological father. Just about that whole episode, though, had me hovering on the edge...seeing Tekeny with Kirayoshi, seeing the hurt in his eyes when Kira snapped at him, watching her continue and continue to refuse as time ran out...not to mention some of the flashback scenes.

Not even the famous Kirk/Spock moment in Wrath of Khan reached the power of that episode, for me.

There have been many scene in all the star treks where its down right sad....tears or not. The most popular answer might even be when Spock dies, and his service where Kirk fights back his tears....very well done by all.

What are some of trekdom's other great scenes where a character, not the scene perhaps, but the character really convey's sadness, crying or not. Where you really bought the actor/actress ability to convey loss or sadness...

Rob
Scorpio

The attempted genocide on Cardassia Prime and Garak's reaction to the collapse of his world. Andrew Robinsons acting in that scene is magnificent!

And of course Damar's heroic death and redemption

"keep..".

To be honest that whole darned episode was one of the most moving events in trek and a Crowning moment of Awesome for the whole series.:bolian:

Yeah, I too must admit that I shed a few tears at the end of that episode. The way it was done was just so beautiful really. Ghemor was one of the best things to happen to DS9 and it was sad to see him go the way he did:(.

Still it was good to see Weyoun again!

The scene at the end of TNG Borg two-parter where all the smashed ships drift in pitiful array before the bridge viewing screen always tears at me.

I have to agree with that - though I didn't want to mention it before as my DS9 bias might already be too obvious ;)

The montage at the end worked really well for me, though with Garak back on Cardassia I also liked the less controlled Bashir's reaction to knowing he'll never see Garak again.

With Damar I liked his exit, though a few episodes before that when Kira joins in to help the Cardassians there was the scene where Damar had to kill his friend to protect Kira. I thought that was areally sad moment and a great way to show the 'new' Damar, bring in that bond between him and Kira so she could move on from Ziyals death.

The scene from Lessons where Picard thinks Nella has died. He shuts the case to his flute, seemingly forever and sits down with a blank/pain filled look on his face. That one always gets me, even though I know she makes it out.

Totally agree about The Offspring and Inner Light.

Terra Prime: Trip/T'Pol scene in her quarters at the end.

Similitude: Sim in his quarters with Porthos for company waiting to be summoned to sickbay. Then later when he tells Phlox he was a good father just before going under the knife.

Zero Hour: When Trip learns that Archer didn't make it back, the shocked expression.

Observer Effect: Archer watching over Trip and gently placing his hand on his chest as he dies.

Also, I know there are about 8 people in America who like it, but in Nemesis, when Picard and Riker are saying goodbye. It's easy to see the tremendous mutual respect between these two men. Very nicely done.

And one in the UK. I like that scene, too.

9 in the US. :bolian:

Not sure it counts as sad, but certainly brought a tear.

The end of "Inner Light" when Picard plays the flute... wow.

Damn you, now I'm going to start balling my eyes out...

When I make up my will, I'll request that the song from Inner Light will play at my funeral. I'm debating whether or not to add the piano to the flute.

That flute tune is good..and I also like the Vistor tune as well....Trek, when allowed to, did have good music in the modern era...

Rob

Yeah, I'd say leave it at flute only.

Actually, I'll go with Inner Light when Picard's wife is dying and she tells him to put away his shoes. It's something my wife always tells me. Very touching.

That would certainly count. Music just does something for me so it
ends up trumping everything else if music is part of capturing that moment. :)

TNG: The Child - The end of the episode

Voyager: Mortal Coil - When Neelix's duty calls again in the end of the episode

Voyager: Night - when they get out of the darkness. Even I am crying to see the stars again. And when Janeway arrives to the bridge and they are all there. And when Tuvok goes "Captain on the bridge", it's a tearfest time for me.

Voyager: Lineage - The talk B'Elanna and Tom are having in the sickbay in the end of the episode. --> Tachyon in tears.

Voyager: Homestead - When Neelix leaves

The end of TNG's Lower decks with Picard's ship wide announcement is quite saddening.
