You and a holodeck

Don't choose. I'd just tell it to recreate the entire world under my control. That way I could visit the Museum of Natural History if I want, or Anne Hathaway if I want. Or meet Anne Hathaway at the Museum of Natural History.

And tell her to bring Leighton Meester and a couple of school girl outfits.

You have much to teach us.

The dock on the lake at my family's old cottage in Quebec's ski country. It was isolated and very beautiful, and the best place to get away from everything. I'd ban mosquitos, though.

This holodeck does not have enough memory to create the whole world. I don't think the Star Trek ones did either.

They created an entire universe for Moriarty, albeit not in a proper holodeck, so maybe it is possible.

The holodeck doesn't need to create a whole universe. Only the immediate area where you are.

Me, I'd visit baseball games past and present, of course. Particularly old ballparks I never got the chance to see, such as Comiskey Park, Tiger Stadium, old Yankee Stadium before the renovation, Sportsman's Park, Crosley Field, Forbes Field, etc.

I think I'd ask for a Doctor Who program. To travel around with the Doctor and various other companions, have countless different adventures, without the actual thread of getting killed---that would be AWESOME.

Miss Chicken, i LOVE this question!!

That sounds beautiful!!

That would be awesome. Sort of a "Field of Dreams".

For me, presuming this holodeck isn't on a starship, i'd want to be in a holodeck representation of a starship, and explore the galaxy!

So many options. One thing I would do is be part of the Australian cricket team, when the Invincibles during England and won every match. Another is to visit Deep Space Nine.

I'd create a place where I could be alone, undisturbed by any person, society, or technology. It would be high up into the mountains, and there would be a small stream, by which would be a tiny stone cottage. Inside, in the main living area, would be where I would keep all of my books, old scientific instruments, papers, it would have a wood stove in the center of the room, and an old worn out desk with a soft, overstuffed leather chair in the corner. It would have a small bedroom, tiny kitchen (with an old well hand pump faucet), and a bath, just for personal needs.

Outside, in the front, would be an old wooden rocking chair, the front of the cottage would face the Sun, and by day I could read my books, feel the warm breeze, and sit by the stream, dipping my feet in the cold, clear water. I'd listen to the birds sing and chirp, watch squirrels alight from tree branch to tree branch. At night, I could lay outside and watch the stars, light a crackling fire, or be inside and sit in my chair, and by lantern light write my papers or study my books, my dog asleep by my chair, happy and content, and I could go to this place any time I wanted.

An outdoor setting filled with lots of puppies and kittens. I wouldn't be allergic to nature, there would be no "accidents" and no accidental clawings. Just lots of playing and cuddles.

I would be Sir Galahad in Castle Anthrax, ala Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I would make sure that the "grave peril" of a castle of lonely beautiful nubile teenage girls would be mine to face alone without hope of rescue.

A half-dozen of history's hottest actresses, brought through an interdimensional wormhole to Earth. But now they're batshit crazy and they want to take over the world through sexual addiction. :)

My mom, her kitchen, and a big pot of coffee.

She's been gone 11 years... we've got a lot of catching up to do.

I'm not sure I'd be comfortable with replicas of real people. I think there are some major, MAJOR ethical concerns about that. Even what might happen with paid NON-porn actors. (Some people would NOT care if sex was in the actor's contract or not. Plus the ethical concerns about possible cheating on one's spouse or girlfriend/boyfriend.)

Story characters, maybe--but even then...I don't know.

This might sound odd, but I would actually want to create tame simulations of the kinds of animals you can't get close to in real life--either because it's dangerous to you, or because it's not good for the animal. You could learn about animals like that, have a chance to play with and pet them...all without any risks to real animals. Or to yourself.

I mean, I would NEVER DARE own a pet wild animal. But on a holodeck, you could program a tame one that you could actually get close to.

I don't need a holodeck. I have dreams, which are free, come to me at night (thus freeing my daytime to do whatever tasks I wish to do), provide a variety of programs to test my mind and soul, and have their own built-in safety features when things go wrong (I wake up).

Besides, who needs a holodeck when you've got a bed, quilt and several pillows with which one can build a small fort?

This is an adorable response. :) I, too, am very grateful to remember my dreams. Sometimes there are stupid or fragmented ones--but when I get a good dream, it's worth it and sometimes even a writing inspiration. :)

A campground that my family used to go camping at for many summers when I was younger. It's up in the mountains and contains a beautiful lake with paddleboats and kayaking to enjoy, as well as hiking and bike paths around the lake and other areas. The beach is beautiful, as the pine trees grow right up to the edge of the sparkling water, in a mix of sand and dirt that feels great on your toes. The campground itself has a cute little store for basic goods and a tavern-like restaurant, as well as a large cabin housing an exhibit of local arts and crafts. There are some nice bathrooms and pay showers so you never feel like you are unbearably dirty while camping there. The sites themselves are large and littered with large rocks and boulders that were an absolute joy to climb all over when I was a kid. The outdoor amphiteatre has campfire sing-alongs at night and occasionally they roll out the big projector screen for movie viewings. There is a small snack shack by the boat dock that has the best ice cream cones ever. The whole place has a wonderful smell and the weather is absolutely perfect in summer.

I would like some random strangers to be there to fill out the area so I don't get too lonely (and you can't really do sing-alongs by yourself), but mostly I would just like to spend time by myself. Perhaps I would have my pets there with me, past and present. Especially my late dog Sandy, who loved swimming in the lake and running along the trails.

Oh by the way, this is the place featured in my avatar.

That's not a holodeck... that's heaven. :D :techman:

Totally agreed. :) Except I would have good old felis catus along with other feline species that in real life can rarely ever be a good part of domestic life.
