...just as a reminder that there was a USS Yorktown in TOS IIRC. Where do you see this design falling into TOS history?

I see it as a pre-Constitution-Class design, probably having been launched a good 20-30 years prior to the launch of the first Connie. By the time the Constitution-Class ships were launched this Yorktown had been destroyed, lost or decommissioned. The TOS Yorktown (NCC-1704) was the next Federation ship to bear the name.

I would also postulate that the USS Constellation, NCC-1017, was originally of this class. When the Constitution-Class was introduced Starfleet experimented with converting the older Yorktown-Class to the newer model, given that the basic frame of the saucer section was almost identical in both models. So the 1017 was converted to a Connie & retained her old registry number.

That's how it happened in my world anyway ;)

Well, I can't really take credit for the idea. I ran across the idea of the Constellation and Republic having been refits from earlier ship classes in Richard Mandel's Federation Spaceflight Chronology and it made a certain amount of sense to me.

I just took my first shot at doing a dedication plaque. I tried to stick to the general design seen in TOS, but felt there was room for slight variation. Comments and suggestions are always welcome!
