Yikes! Did season 1 episode 6 use AI-generated art?

flat out refusing revolutionary technologies just because it might change the job market

Should I just welcome the very real prospect of the business that employs me right now going bankrupt and finding myself unemployed in a job market that doesn’t even really need my skillset anymore? I’

I say this with the utmost respect and sympathy: "Won't someone think of the Buggy Whip Manufacturers!"

passively pointing to whatever answer the collective pressure of the masses pushes them toward.

AI is arguably the technical manifestation of the concept of the "Wisdom of the Crowd"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wisdom_of_the_crowd?wprov=sfla1

I've been directly harmed by the theft of my intellectual property to train LLMs, and a court has already determined that I and thousands of others are owed financial compensation for that harm, though we're only likely to see a fraction of what we would have gotten if the companies had acquired the rights to our work legitimately.

Given the nature of how AI uses data, I figure you should be paid the cover price of all your works. If it costs me $1000 to buy and read every book you've ever written, it should cost the AI trainer the same amount. Now, if we are talking retroactive payments because the works in question were pirated, that's a completely different number.

The other factor to consider is this: discarding all other considerations, given the binary choice of having your voice and opinion included in the model or having your ideas ignored and excluded, which would you rather choose?

Theft is theft no matter what vehicle /means you are using to execute that theft. Thats why individuals and corporations are being sued. We are not suing the raw technology / a.i program itself .

Seems pretty straightforward here. If someone smashes your car windows with a baseball bat, we sue/punish the person using the bat. Not the bat or the bat 's manufacturer. Also makes no sense to get angry at the bat but rather the individual or act.

A 3d printer can be used to commit fraud or art theft/theft of intellectual property. 3d printing deserves to still exist.

Chat GPT is estimated to use betweem 85 thousand and 40 million gallons of water per day.

The average 4 person household consumes about 100 gallons per day - on top of the amount Chat GPT uses.

Your example is hardly equivalent -

It was not meant to be equivalent. And you didn’t comment on the examples on how AI is *already* being employed to solve this issue.

Oh no, another article written by someone else that’s supposed to confute what I experience everyday! And behind a paywall so I can’t even read it!

We're going to figure out how not to consume immense resources ... by consuming immense resources?

Actually yes. And it’s not a new concept either, think about it.

To feed our body we need to move it, causing the need to feed it more, for a very basic analogy.

How was this statement not meant to be you presenting an equivalent to my previous post -

It was not meant to be equivalent. And you didn’t comment on the examples on how AI is *already* being employed to solve this issue.

If not for AI, this wouldn't exist:

@Tosk, you like ketchup with that hat? :p

Jesting aside, it‘s cool that the artist has come forward and even posted some of his sketches. It sucks so much that that‘s where we are now, artists having to post evidence and prove instead of people just being able to enjoy the art. I’m sure there still will be plenty of people who just know this must be AI. (And truth be told, it still could be, even with those sketches. But I refuse to be this cynical.) What‘s interesting is that in those sketches Captain Chi doesn‘t appear to be Asian yet. And it would still be cool to learn what the thinking is behind the TOS uniforms.

But wait, wait there are obvious TELLs that this was A.I!!!

Seriously though, I hope people who (still) do not believe this guy will leave him alone on social media

Well, the penciler employed a very spare sketching style. Trek uniforms are a little generic. Colored and detailed differently, those might not look so TOS - as in The Last Starship comic.

There was a lot of arrogance on the part of the skeptics on X.

Yikes!
