I'm bumping this as I couldn't find a thread for South Park's 20th season. I wondered if anyone was still watching and what their thoughts were so far?
After the last couple of serialised seasons, I felt a bit lukewarm to another. There have been some really good episodes in the mix, yet sometimes elements I didn't like were stretched out somewhat.
So the first couple episodes came and went, and I thought they were okay. But I think since then the season has been a lot of fun, and is turning into one of my favourites. Mr. Garrison has made me laugh trying so hard to get people to dislike him, but only making him a stronger presidential nominee. He's really been taking on the Donald Trump mantle quite well.
The internet troll story was slow at first, but again that has built into something really interesting. Gerald is just trolling people because he's a dick, and for no other reason. Dildo Baggins is doing it because he's also a dick, yet he was bullied as a kid and he wants to make a difference politically.
The member berries are absolutely hilarious. I love the idea of nostalgia being dangerous, and how they're like a dangerous drug. It's alright when we're waxing lyrically about how good things were in the past, but we always tend to forget the bad stuff that happens, and thus doomed to repeat it.
In terms of media nostalgia, I also love how J.J. Abrams keeps being mentioned as a bad guy. I loved the new Star Trek films and The Force Awakens, but it just made me smile so much.
Cartman also showed that despite appearances in recent episodes, he's still a scheming son of a bitch.
It's been strange seeing the new Cartman after he was completely cut off from the internet, and seeing how he dreams of being like Matt Damon in The Martian when he's happy was a funny thought. But he lied to his new girlfriend to try and cover his own arse.
The portrayal of the Danish is pretty funny as well, kind of reminiscent of the treatment of the Canadians.
Oh I have to give a special mention to the show still managing to gross me out after 20 years of continually doing so. Seeing Gerald shit in Sheila's mouth really had me shouting at the screen in disgust, but then in the same episode, we have the boys at school flashing their junk, and we can actually
see it?
