Yet another Nemesis Question

Just after the view screen is blown to hell, Data reports that the compliment of photon torpedos have been used. Yet We kow that they have quantom torpedos. (red= photon, blue= quantom ? )? Do they have both or was that just a writers error.

Or then not. Why would Data need to specify anything about the quantum torpedoes? Either all of them were already spent earlier on, or then a few remain but won't make a difference. The Enterprise isn't completely toothless, that's not the point Data is making; for example, the phasers still mostly work. He's just saying there are no more photon torpedoes, that's all.

Indeed, Timo hit it exactly. Sometime people way overthink things and go off blaming poor writing and all that when there is no need to get into that level of detail.

The ship is out of photons. End of discussion. No one asked about quantums, no one asked if they had class-eight probes in storage, and really there is no need to get that deep.

*shrug*

It is possible, though this wouldn't be true to Data and his precision, that saying they were out of phototorps was including quantumntorps.

It was dumb they were out anyway, considering the Ent-D's supply was a few hundred of them so it should be around the same for the Ent-E.

Unfortunately Shinzon happened to attack the week they'd offloaded all but three of their photon torpedoes.

Then again, firing desperately against an invisible target is the most plausible way in the Trek universe to run out of torpedoes.

Even if the E-E had 250 torpedoes onboard, how long would they last? They have to fire at least four per volley in order to score any damage, and they need to fire something like five volleys per minute at the very least if they hope to hit anything. That would give twenty torps per minute, or 13 minutes before exhaustion.

I mean, yes, they did use phasers for their "ranging shots" at first, but that didn't seem to work. Their "ranging shots" would need to be "kill shots" at the same time, because what they ranged would not stay ranged for long. So something like 90% of the torps would be fired into empty space, in devastating volleys that would hit nothing.
