This is easily one of my favorite "re-imaginings" of the ship I've ever seen. It's clearly more modern and feels more realistic than the 60's version, but it also stays very true to that original.
A lot of the other attempts I've seen (including the DSC/SNW version, unfortunately) go too far and lose the clean lines and simple beauty of the original. This version doesn't make those mistakes.
It's also easier to imagine this version being refit into what we see in TMP.

There's a lot of small detailing that's hard to spot unless it's up close!
Alas, I think I figured out the look that I want for the textures. Now it's just a matter of remaining consistent with the materials and mapping the paneling for the rest of the ship.
