Spoilers Y The Last Man

So this is the “death by Snu Snu” part of the story. :)
Rather a dick move not to tell Beth. That might have persuaded her not to do what she’s planning. She’s obviously hurting and fallen in to the wrong type of crowd.

:sigh:

I'm really trying to judge this show on its own merits and not based on how the original comic told the story, but it keeps feeling like it's adding more and more storylines while ignoring the perfectly good ones (the Amazons aside) from the comic. I figured after how the first episode played out that Beth wouldn't turn up in Australia and that she would eventually reemerge in some other fashion. But to have fall into the wrong crowd (much like Hero's storyline so, you know, repetitive) to actively work against Jennifer's administration is yet another storyline I just don't care about.

It doesn't help that Kimberly is becoming more and more of a religious zealot, especially now she believes that Yorick is alive and firmly believing that it's God's Will. I don't want to even imagine what her mother's suicide will do to that zealotry, other than becoming more aligned with Regina's way of thinking and really the whole situation just makes my eyes roll in frustration. It really feels like my spoiler supposition last week about Alter might be spot on, maybe even to the point of replacing the character outright.

While I enjoyed the banter between 355 and Allison and how forcing them to deal with their issues in a prison cell, I can't help but feel like the show continues to stall out their journey instead of heading towards the interesting storylines I know that are ahead of them.

That said, it's curious how Kristen Gutoskie's character (the woman Yorick woke up next to and befriends by the end of the episode) isn't given a name and isn't credited to one (IMDb doesn't even have a name listed). Makes me wonder if...
...she's Beth II and this is how Yorick briefly gets involved with her instead of how it plays out in the comic. For all of the show's changes, for some reason, this one wouldn't bother me as much. Maybe because that would mean the Yorick/355/Allison journey isn't as stalled out as it feels like.

Well. Damn.

As excited as I was for this show, I'm not too disappointed about this development. Bad timing unfortunately. Among other factors.

Who thought people would want to watch a series like that at a time like this? After 15 years in Development Hell would another couple have mattered?

And also "the show is focusing on the wrong things". In this case its politics. In other cases its character drama and things like that. What in the world do you want these shows to focus on? Shows are too long to be all about a single plotline...

People keep saying "at a time like this". At a time like what? It's always some kind of "time like this".

Time of major political strife. You loose half of your potential audience right off the bat with people thinking it's going to be a preachy sermon about the Patriotarchy or something. You don't got a strong name actor for the guy to pull in a audience. A society that has fallen apart because I guess a virus during Covid is going to make people feel uncomfortable. It would have had a better chance 10 years go IMO. Not sure as the quality because I wasn't watching but I can see why it failed in the ratings. I am guessing it wasn't super great because if it was it would have developed more of a word of mouth appeal where people keeping hearing people talk about how great it is. Kind of like that Squid Game show on Netflix.

Very few people say squid games is particularly great imo. In it's a zeitgeist, everyone is watching because everyone is watching.

It appeared at the top of everyone's recommended list, so people clicked. I haven't bothered yet. Netflix has a lot of Korean programming now that looks much more interesting to me.

It is a shame about Y, but I understand that it is being shopped around. Based on what I'm reading here, a second season should be retooled a bit--it would be cool if Netflix picked it up.

I have to say that this show didn't exactly put the web on fire. Virtually every review I read says it's slow, boring and focuses too much on political bickering.

Streaming services don't tend to cancel shows that do just mediocre though, because if anyone quits the service because their show is gone money is lost. It seems that Netflix tends to give shows 3 seasons unless they're particularly under-performing or are Marvel shows.

Exactly this for me, never wacthed it so I can't comment what it's actually like, but it sounded terrible. And nothing like the graphic novels which I really enjoyed

As someone who loves the comics and has watched all of the episodes (aside from today's), I can safely say it only partially resembles the comic. Lots of new characters (and only one of whom is actually interesting) and lots of new unnecessary storylines instead of focusing on the ones from the comics.

Might help if anyone on the show was likable.

I'm trying to remember why is Yorick on this quest? Seems he was secured in DC, why didn't 355 go out herself to try to find and retrieve Mann, wouldn't that have been easier? I get the dramatic reason for having him along just not the story reason.

I wonder if it's younger audiences, it's Korean which seems to be hot at the moment and very obviously influenced by that Fall Guys video game. I've watched the first two so far, it's decent enough.
