XXXth Olympiad - London

They can do that as well, they still shouldn't expect to be paid the full fee of the contract, after all they breached the contract buy not living up to their end of it.

Considering how unengaged the public were before the games it's a marvellous turnaround for everyone to be so positive now. However, even from the depths of the frozen wastes and the sheer lack of excitement about something happening in London; there wasn't anyone saying it was going to be poorly run or a disaster.

The games were a shocking waste of money that really should have been used elsewhere, such as reinstating the rebuilding secondary schools initiative, the NHS, etc. etc. but the GB team have done very very well and I've enjoyed pretty much all of it !

The feelgood factor is fading already. Unfortunately we'll be paying for it all for years...

One wonders how many times you will say this in one thread?

Also, I bet he never eats out or goes to the movies, because the money could be spent for something more useful, like feeding children in Africa or something.

You know what they say: sixth time's the charm.

If Britain had a penny for each of his thoughts on the subject, this shocking waste of money would have already been paid off.

Hey now, the Canadian press was plenty negative when they could be. You just didn't give them many opportunities. :p

On a related topic I got say that the £20bn that they plan to spend on upgrading the railway line between Birminigham and London is a waste of money.

Sometimes the further we are aware from something the less positive impact we see from it, leading to a view that it's a waste of money.

I can't believe you went and counted them.

From someone who was in Atlanta during the 1996 Olympics, you did a nice job, London!

As for NBC... :scream:
I couldn't watch the closing ceremonies live, so I had to watch the tape delayed version. Not only did they edit out several performances, but they abruptly cut into it to show their stupid "Animal Hospital" as well as local news. When they finally came back an hour later, all that was left was 6 minutes of The Who. Six minutes! I waited an hour for that?!? :klingon: :scream: :brickwall:

The Canadian Media Consortium (better known as CTV buying every second of the Olympics) showed how corporations ruined this games. They send a Canadian legend, Brian Williams, out there with a bunch of their new hip sports broadcasters (Onrait, Hedger, Duthie, O'Toole) who make me want to throw stuff at the TV and have them utter some useless garbage that I couldn't like this Olympic games if we won every gold medal.

No need. The board will sort the replies in the thread by poster for you:

That's quite impressive !

Well, at least I'm consistent. Is it too soon to start on the Paralympics yet ?

Actually, I can't really object to that - it's actually getting more use from the existing facilities.

Whatever my opinions on the expenditure, I really enjoyed the games, went to the torch relay and attended the Olympic Football, so I'm not a total killjoy.

Feck me.....

That's awesome.

Yep; it's a fairly well-researched phenomenon called Time Preference (or sometimes, Time Discounting).

Also, I bet he never eats out or goes to the movies, because the money could be spent for something more useful, like feeding children in Africa or something.

Not true, but there is a real difference between what I do and what is done with public money that should be spent for the common good.
