Your estimates are pretty good apart from International. Science fiction typically plays well overseas and Trek is a name brand. I would expect the international numbers to keep up with domestic, possibly even exceed it.

Hmm, I had figured that to be the case, but then looking at the IMDB numbers
it lusualy appeared that the "Worldwide" box office was about double that
of the domestic, and I assumed "Worldwide" was including the domestic total.

So if not I would revise my numbers to be...

$72.5 Million opening weekend at number one.
$219.2 Million Domestic box office
$203.5 Million International box office
$422.7 Million worldwide box office

Fandango lists Trek XI as most anticipated blockbuster for men.

Argh, what's wrong with women? Harry Potter? Blech! :rommie: :p

Yeah I don't get it, most my female friends loooove Harry Potter :S

looking at the competition, Trek has a good chance I think. Angels and Demons is a sequel to a movie that not many people liked. Wolverine is an origin story that not many people are really excited about. The trailer for both movies didn't generate much excitement.
Harry Potter, a for sure box office number for at least a few weeks, is not direct competition with Trek since it comes out two months later.

To this point, It would seem to me, that Trek to this point has garnered more positive excitement than Wolverine or Angels and Demons. I like to monitor the "upcoming movie" circuit, so my opinion is not that biased. :)

Fox really dropped the ball with the Wolverine trailer. It debuts with The Day the Earth... which basically is bombing. Meanwhile the Trek trailer debuts with Bond which totally cleaned up... and it wasn't even the first trailer. Not to mention the press tour... Yeah I'd say Fox still has some major catching up to do with Wolverine.

Not really, it still got plenty of audience with TDTESS(which played better overseas)
and is in front of several other big movies this week, Valkyrie and The Spirit both played it here.

And it'll be in front of other big movies aswell. They've got no catching up to do.
It's going to be big.

:wtf:

Well, I say that based on my experience. I saw the reaction of these trailers and the Trek trailer on various websites and from what I saw, Angels and Demons was meh, and a lot of people I saw were making fun of Wolverine. I am not saying that they will completely bomb, but if this was the The DaVinci Code and X2 or even X3, then I think Trek would have stiffer competition, but those two franchises aren't going to get what they got in the past.

Trek on the other hand, based on current reaction, people are at least a tad bit, kind of excited about it...

Hey it can't get worse than Nemesis

And I would say the opposite based on my experiences.

And I agree, people are very excited so far for Trek.
But all the other films are going to be huge competition for it.
Wolverine is going to be a big hit and Angels and Demons will
bring back all the DaVinci Code folks plus some.

well, I don't know anything about Angels and Demons or the the DaVinci Code. I have never had any interest in the movies or books. I love X-Men, but X3 left a horrible taste in my mouth and the trailer looks silly, that is just my personal feelings on those movies...

Wolverine jumping omn the helicopter? hehe, that sounds like something from a Transporter movie...

Just for reference:

Quantum - 108 Mil over ten days
TDTESS - 48 Mil over ten days

I think it's pretty obvious who made the better choice, that's just me. I think it's silly to talk about other movies down the line which will be playing the trailer since that goes with all movies. I'm talking about debut.

Wolverine jumping omn the helicopter?

They are comic book superheroes.

Yeah they may have made the better choice for debuting the Star Trek
trailer, but in no way does that mean Fox dropped the ball on it. It still
reached a good sized audience and only a couple weeks later it was playing
in two other big movies. TDTESS was Fox's big seasonal movie so it's only
natural that's where it premiered instead of in front of a competitor film.

The DaVinci Code was huge hit and Angels and Demons will follow in line.
You have no interest, but it's meant for different audiences. Mainly readers
of the novels.

X3 was my favorite of the X-Men movies, and the reaction I've seen from
the general viewers(and my own) to the Wolverine trailer was excitement.

I never read reviews because they rarely get anything right.

ah! you say that X3 was your favorite X-Men movie? I see where we disagree now! :)
Because i thought X3 was the worst movie I had seen in the theater.
But to each his own. Even though I didn't like it, doesn't mean someone else can't.

That's not why I am judging Wolverine how I am though.

X3 did do big box office numbers. But this movie is an origins story
and even if alot of people didn't like X3 they'll go see this since
it really doesn't have much to do with that story or individual film.

Trek had a teaser in the theater and online in January along with high profile covers and more recently a worldwide press tour. Fox waits until December to do anything... yes, that's dropping the ball.

The DaVinci Code was huge hit and Angels and Demons will follow in line.

Da Vinci Code did do well it's first week, but it was coming into very little competition and audiences were excited at first. The bulk of it's money was made overseas. I don't think the excitement will be there for A&D, after the Code's letdown. 25% on Rottentomatoes is not a good look. I think people will opt for the action of Trek and Terminator.

Trek put out a trailer in advance because it originaly had a
release date 6 months sooner. And Paramount isn't dropping the
ball by waiting till February to premiere the trailer for Transformers 2.
Fox has not dropped the ball, they got a trailer out in the holiday
season 6 months before the film comes out, and a Marvel property
like X-Men doesn't need as much of a push as does Trek since many
lost interest with Trek a decade ago. It's all appropriate and will work just fine.
Not to mention they promoted it at Comic Con this year.

Angels and Demons will be as big or bigger than DaVinci Code. Yes there will
be some who choose action flicks over it, but they weren't the intended
audience anyways.

And because it's when Cloverfield came out. Summertime would've been sufficient for a teaser. That's when the Terminator teaser came out and when the Wolverine teaser should have.

And Paramount isn't dropping the

Obviously. TF2 is only one of the most anticipated sequels of recent years.

I didn't say it wouldn't work out for them in the long run. I'm simply comparing the marketing as it happens. That's all we can do.

Based on what exactly? Audiences where hugely disappointed with the first. That's why the word of mouth was so bad and the drop off was so sudden. They'll have to somehow convince fans this new one will actually be a decent adaptation. It may do ok overseas, but it'll get lost in the US.
