XBA basketball?

After getting smacked so thoroughly back in the day with his lame ass XFL idea, I doubt McMahon would venture in to the real world of sports again. He's does his best work when it's a a soap opera, not an actual legitimate sporting body.

I remember tuning in to one or two XFL games just to see what it was all about... Apparently McMahon's original plan was to try and purchase the CFL or something? My memory is hazy. That would have sucked.

Good thing is, his original plan is falling apart. He can't do whatever what he wants to, to my understanding, he's the chairman of the wwe. Knowing Vince McMahon, I'm sure that he's already learned the lesson from last time when he created XFL football. It's not good idea if he go on to attempting XBA basketball. According to Tommy Dreamer, he said himself that if XFL football weren't mixing up with wrestling, it would be SO successful now.

With the XFL, weren't people expecting a wrestling/football hybrid, sort of like a live-action Mutant League Football? Instead, it was just football with mostly wash-ups and never-will-bes.

The fundamental flaw with it was listening to what people say rather than what they really want.

The idea was to bring back "smash mouth" football with less regulation because, supposedly, people always say that that's what they want. Unfortunately, a combination of mediocre (at best) players and the generally low quality play meant that people switched off in droves.

That's the problem with trying to start up a competing league from scratch. Pretty much regardless of the sport you're going to end up with that "combination of mediocre (at best) players and the generally low quality play". It takes time to develop good players and build a fan base and that means money. Lots of it. For years. Most investors just aren't interested in do that any more.

I actually liked the XFL. I didn't expect it to last, but I was still mad when it ended. For many reasons:

1) I started watching the XFL right when it started, so I could follow it from the beginning...none of the extensive history (that the NFL has) that would cause me to not understand a lot of the intricacies of the game. Plus it just sort of feels cool to follow something from the very start.

2) I know precisely zilch about football. People say the XFL was bad football - well, I don't know what *good* football is. So it's all the same to me, really.

3) The cheerleaders. Need I say more?

Anyway, now that there's no more XFL, I basically have zero interest in football apart from Husker games of course. I will say this, though: I understand why football fans would hate the XFL, because I do love baseball, and if they tried to do an 'XLB' I would be some kind of pissed.

The thing I found silliest about the XFL was that he owned all the teams. It just seemed like that made the whole competitiveness angle very questionable.

He screwed up bad by integrating the wrestling elements from the start having HHH appear and having JR and the King announce the games. I think McMahon had to stress credibility even as the "Xtreme" elements were flaunted.

Not to say it ever would have worked but I think it could have been a more successful experiment.

Re: XBA basketball? >> Actually, it's bowling

This might be funny if Vince decides to trademark the XBA like he did the WWF. The XBA is a Los Angeles company called the Xtreme Bowling Association and they own the trademarks on use of the XBA.

Wonder if Vince McMahon will try and contact Sidd Nullus (who seems to run the XBA) so he can buy the trademark. LOL

Oh, and they're trying out people for their new season. Hilarious!
