X-Men Spinoff Featuring Gambit Gets Greenlight

I'm not a huge Gambit fan, but I'm all for making solo movies rom a bigger group of heroes. Plus I generally like the X-Men movies. A Gambit movie could be very good. We'll never know until they try, and (as much as I like him) at least its not just another Wolverine movie, they're branching out a bit.

I still like Gambit from his appearance in the 1990's X-Men cartoon. Even his guest-appearances in the 2008 Wolverine & The X-Men series were scene stealers. But in both cases his best usually came when Wolverine was with him. As far as his appeareance in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, he was probably the best of the new characters.

Three X-flicks in one year? Even Marvel Studios hasn't yet done that, and won't until 2017 (though we did get four Marvel major movies last summer). Moreover, what with Cap 3 and Doctor Strange, this means five Marvel movies coming out in 2016 - a new record, surely.

But I think the question we all have in mind is, what schlubby yet witty mutant sidekick can Jonah Hill play? :p

I'm not a huge fan of solo movies - the X-men are a team. If they feature other X-men is support, then I'm all for it (like Black Widow featuring in Winter Soldier). The Wolverine was a better movie for having Famke in it for sure. Gambit initially teamed up with Storm for example.

I've got no problem with Tatum bailing. They couls always get someone more suiable...

Tatum is literally the only reason this movie is being made. There's a non-zero possibility that the Gambit film is dead now.

Well, I think that depends on how much Fox has invested. There's no question this is a Tatum project and they have every reason to pull the plug, but they might say "fuck it, let's try to salvage this somehow." Not a great way to go into something, though.

If they're not going to do Gambit & Rogue together, why bother? Those two characters playing off of each other was one of the best parts of the animated series.

Yeah, but they also have good elements separate. Rogue had a lot of cool stuff in the comics before she met Gambit (a lot of that would be difficult without Ms. Marvel). Rogue and Gambit, to me, work great as part of the X-Men. But if they were to make a Gambit movie with the Thieves Guilt (sorry, the Tieves Guild) or maybe the Marauders, it would work very well.

*Taylor Kitsch waits eagerly by the phone* :rommie:

^ But... but... he's just finished filming Battleship 2 and John Carter Rides Again, so he's free! :p

To be honest, I'd rather see Kitsch do a Gambit movie. I dig Tatum fine, but am wary of what he'd look like with Gambit hair, plus I expect other cool movies from him, whereas I have no such expectations from Kitsch.

So, has anything been actually CONFIRMED? Loads of 'looks like' and 'rumor has it'. But no actual conformation, right?
