Grade the movie, bud!

Lauren Schuller Donner (sp) said they were gonna wait to see how well Wolverine does money wise first.
Taking their sweet time though, seems to have first been mentioned donkeys years ago

I thought the scene with Cyclops, Enmma Frost and the others being rescued by Xavier works as a cool set up for the proposed X-Men: First Class movie

I have a problem with some of the TV promos they were playing last night. They were saying Summer starts in 3 days. Summer is nearly 2 months away.

Gave it a B, thought it was an okay movie. Pretty much a typical action film and it looked good. I'd seen a non-spoiler review on tv and I have to agree with the critics, performances were fine, action was fine but the script was lacking, but maybe I'm expecting too much of a superhero flick.

The casting of Kayla was good, to me she looked quite a bit like Jean Grey from the movies. So you could make a connection as to why Logan was so taken by Jean.

Wish I knew about the post-credit scenes. Wish they told you before hand when they have them so you could choose if you wanted to see the scene or not.

So the adamantium bullet to the head, is that a tie in to X-Men 2 when Logan gets shot in the head by the cop? Sort of explaining why when he is meant to be encased in super invincible metal alloy that a bullet digs into his skull and takes a while to pop out?

Side-note: We got the Wolverine video game trailer, looks like you can fight Sentinels in the game. Why can't see get that in a movie? X-Men 3 doesn't count because it was in the dangerroom and all we saw was a spot light and a decapitated head. I want one (or more) Sentinels vs the X-Men where they are offering up a big challenge against the X-Men because Sentinels were made to hunt down mutants.

^ Yeah I thought about that more afterwards. Hope it sets up a sequel with Yuriko and maybe the Silver Samurai or something
Agreed.

I've always loved his Japan/Madapoor stories as Patch.
Btw, thanks for the review and info on Deadpool.:techman:

BTW, is Roger Ebert really reviewing these films? I thought he was very ill & bed ridden?

He got better and had this to say.

"When a man can leap from an exploding truck, cling to an attacking helicopter, slice the rotor blades, ride it to the ground, leap free and walk away (in that ancient cliche where there's a fiery explosion behind him but he doesn't seem to notice it), here's what I think: Why should I care about this guy?"

He makes a very good point. If the guy is so freaking invincible and downright unstoppable, where is the tension? Where is the suspense of danger? Where's the fun?

This is a Star Wars like prequel in every sense of the word. There's no point to it, it's made to capitalize on the most popular character instead of the right characters, the focused character's origins are explained in great detail in the later movies now rendering them redundant and every other character is thrown in just for show.

I will not be seeing this movie and I'm proud to declare that even I sometimes will hate "BADA**" characters.

erm, Superman?
And if one is asking "where the fun is" with a character like Logan/Wolverine. Hmm...

At least with Superman I can walk up to him and have a nice chat. Wolverine is just a jerk who just happened to become popular because people this day in age just want more characters who don't give a crap about anything or anyone.

Does "in this day and age" include 20 years ago?

that wasn't my quote.:alienblush:

However, I'm guessing Mr. Ebert has never reviewed a Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee, Steve Sagal, Jason Statham, etc. film? They all action just action for actions sake films.

But the characters that Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee, etc, aren't invincible, unkillable characters.

In fact, that's what's so great about Jackie Chan movies, you know he's doing it himself, and he's getting hurt--we see the clips at the end.

And Ebert DOES watch and review action films, and he does judge them on their own merits. He doesn't compare them to Art House films.

I completely understand all that.

However, Wolvie wouldn't still be around after all these years if he were unlikable. However, with the skills both Jackie & Lee have in there films, they're invincible compared to what obsticales are in their way.

That is part of the problem when some people make Wolverine's healing factor too extreme. What always made the character more interesting to me in the comics was that he still felt pain, he's invincible but not invulnerable. I liked his early standalone comics where he was capable of dying (if under extreme conditions) Plus, he doesn't have unlimited power so he can't just lift a mountain to solve a problem.

C+, enoyable enough actioner but plot holes you could drive a truck through and bits that just make zero sense...

I'm planning on betraying Logan, but first I thought I'd make him even more unstoppable."

On 3 Mile island Stryker just lets Logan walk away? No guards even attampting to attack him or anything?

The bit with the adamantiam bullets was just cringe worthy, even down to Stryker explaining exactly what would happen if he used them. WTF? Surely they could have come up with a better explanation for blanking his memory

What's the point of giving Ryan Reynolds literally a 5 minute cameo? Especially when you don't even get him to play Deadpool later on?

Did have its plus points. Few nice set pieces, Jackman is excellent as always, and schreiber is too. Enjoyable but forgetable...probably better than X3 at least!
