X-Men : First Class

Wrong, wrong, wrong direction. We want to see the people that we love, not newbys. It's a kiddie movie now to fill the Harry Potter void. It's over for me.

Umm, you DO realize that 'X-Men: First Class' is going to focus on Xavier's first students, right? That means that, as established by the first 'X-Men' movie, we're going to get to see younger versions of Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, and Storm... and probably others as well.

I don't understand the original posters post unless it's some kind of overreaction. What Digific Writer posted is quite correct. "X-Men: First Class" is based on an original treatment of Bryan Singer's that deals with the formation of the Xavier Institute along with the dissolution of Charles's friendship with Magneto. Indeed Singer has stated that this forms the core story of the movie. It deals with Scott, Jean, Storm, Beast and probably others. Marvel/Fox still has "X-Men 4" that they are offering around as well...this is not an attempt to pan to a younger audience to fill the Harry Potter void (I really don't understand that statement since Potter is a Warner Bros property) and there are tons of other films that target that demographic.

with production starting this summer, anybody want to start casting speculation/wishlist? just for kicks

The likelihood is strong that Patrick Stewart and Tim Poccock will reprise their respective roles as Professor Xavier and Cyclops from previous films (Stewart from every movie thus far, including Origins: Wolverine, and Poccock from Origins: Wolverine), and it's also likely that any actors they choose for the other known roles (Jean, Beast, and Storm) are going to have to bear resemblance to Famke Jannsen, Halle Berry, and Kelsey Grammer.

What I'd like to see are people's logical and realistic picks/suggestions for those roles, as well as other mutants that we might see in the film given what we know from Origins: Wolverine and the 3 films that make up the core X-Men saga.

I wanted to see Jubilee in an X-Men film...unless I missed her in previous X-Men movies.

:(

i guess i should have rephrased and asked for serious casting speculation choices/wishlist. I dunno if i can endure a whole movie where Patrick Stewart has that de-aging effect on him the whole time. Although it would be great to have him again. I doubt they'll be able to do it because of scheduling and how short notice this thing is being pushed into production, but I mentioned in the other thread Daniel Craig (somewhat based on his ties to Mathew Vaughn from Layer Cake, so we don't get a complete unknown filling in for Ian McKellan) or Christopher Eccleston as Erik Lansherr and a clean shaven Paul Bettany (maybe even David Tennant)as Charles Xavier.

I guess if we knew more info on which characters are actually going to be in it would help tremendously.

As for the roster itself, I would go with the classic roster of Cyke, Jean Grey, Iceman, Beast, and Angel, although that would totally retcon everything that supposedly happens later on. So maybe switch out Iceman and Angel for Storm and maybe somebody that haven't used before like Alex Summers (Havok) and have that sibling rivalry connection to Scott

and then of course emma frost. Honorable mentions would be if not Beast than Forge, Psylocke (supposedly in the Last Stand, but that movie should not count whatsoever), Sunfire, Thunderbird, Longshot or Dazzler, Cannonball, Mimic, basically characters that would have never really seen the light of day on the big screen until now.

Singer mentioned Professor Xavier and Magneto would need to be re-cast since First Class sees them as twentysomethings.

^hmm credible British actors in there 20's. Or shall I say credible actors that can pull off a great English accent that are either in there 20s or look like they are. Shouldn't be too hard right?

20s?! But that would mean Xavier and Magneto are only like 10 years older than the core X-Men at most!

Logan lost his memories 15 years before the first movie, Magneto was clearly in his 60s in the first movie (and Patrick Stewart was 60 or so then too). So if this is after Xavier rescued Scott in "Origins" then he'd have to be in his mid to late 40s.

thats what i'm sayin. what the eff? ok im going back to my Daniel Craig/Christopher Eccleston and Paul Bettany/David Tennant suggestion, haha

I don't think we can take everything that Singer has said about the film as gospel, especially since he's no longer going to be directing the film himself, and isn't going to be involved in writing the script, or else they run the risk of contradicting themselves.

If I were going to cast the film and absolutely had to recast Xavier and Lehnsherr, I'd go with Mark Strong as Xavier and Julian McMahon as Lehnsherr. Both bear a resemblance to Stewart and McKellen, at least IMO, and, given the advances in digital and prosthetic technology, it probably wouldn't be that hard to shove their physical appearance a bit closer to Stewart and McKellen's if they needed to.

Regardless of their exact age, Singer dispelled any notion that we'd see Stewart and/or McKellen back in the roles. Remember, First Class starts off with Xavier & Lensherr first meeting each other as early twentysomethings, and then it progresses to them as adults, so think the age of Kirk & Spock in Star Trek. When they form Xavier's school, they are likely going to be in their 30's.
