X-MEN: FIRST CLASS (Casting, Rumors, Pics till release)

The internet has been ripping them and deservedly so. They're awful.

Can you imagine being the person who lovingly designed these, presented them, had them approved and released them, expecting geeks all over the world to 'squee' with approval? They must be totally in shock at the total disgust that is rightly being heaped on their designs!

Couldnt they have done a period specific poster. I think a cool 60's look X-Men first class poster would have been a great idea. These just look like some body who just learned photoshop put them together.

^ This is what I think they should be doing with their poster designs. Be inspired by the period and design something from the era. The logo seemed to take advantage of that. I don't see why the rest of the posters can't either instead of getting boring, generic crap and bad photoshopped art.

I think Vaughn was joking about the Twilight comment.
Which might be veiled in truth.
They have been trying to introduce these characters and the world of comics to the female members of the audience for awhile now.
There was more to featuring Jackman prominately in the previous X-films other than him just being Wolverine. More to buffing up Toby McGuire than just being Spider-Man. Why Chris Evans as Capt. America? Women were paying for a comic book based film to see them. They're either going to create a new sex symbol for this film(*cough*Fassbender*cough*) or give that part of the audience something else to keep them. Those Twilight followers spent ALLOT of money on that stuff. They are potential revenue.

Exactly. Not that the posters have to be specific to the year(s) the film takes place but I'd have tried to incorporate just that.

"You know the stories of JFK, Castro, the Moon Landing and Woodstock now disover the origins of Xavier."
Perhaps the poster has a type of hexagonal imagery with pics of each mentioned 60's character with Xavier in the center and the logo across the bottom.

Anything but that crappy stuff they put out.

I don't know. That would be cool as hell, granted, but, commercially, I'm not sure you want to play up the "retro" angle that much. The track record for period superhero flicks is abysmal and I doubt that the average teenage moviegoer is going to get excited by the sixties angle. "Wow! It's the Cuban Missile Crisis! Awesome!"

That only appeals to us old farts who grooved to Diana Rigg's AVENGERS or whatever . . ..

The track record for period superhero flicks is abysmal...

Really? That doesn't bode well for Captain America, then.

What period superhero films have there been, though? The main ones that come to mind are The Incredibles, which was very successful, and Watchmen, which was less so. Then there was The Phantom and The Shadow back in the '90s, though the Shadow's more a pulp hero than a superhero. Other than that... does Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow count?

I'm thinking The Phantom, The Shadow, Sky Captain, The Rocketeer . . . .

And, yeah, technically, two of those weren't based on comic books, but I'm not sure that general audiences really split those hairs. They were all old-timey superhero movies.

And, yeah, I'm curious to see if CAPTAIN AMERICA makes it work.

Where does Warren Beatty's Dick Tracey fit in? It was a comic strip technically.

But really the comic book period piece film is going to get it's first honest test this summer with First Class and Captain America.

Well, Captain America does have the same director as The Rocketeer, a film I enjoyed, though it didn't do too well at the box office.

I wasn't really thinking about promoting events on the posters...just the actual designs. Kind of like what the international posters for "Black Swan" did. They took some risks and had some outstanding art designs. Fox probably won't want to take the same approach and we will continue to get boring, generic corporate "safe" posters. I suspect that this film will continue to promote Xavier and Lensherr as it should since the main story revolves around them. I'm hoping that we will get more of the other characters. As pointed out earlier this is kind of a hard film to promote outside of Xavier and Magneto since there aren't any huge names attached to this film or characters really. I have said from the start that it will be interesting to see how the box office does for this film. I predict a $40-$60 million dollar opening weekend.

Photoshop is the worst thing to happen to movie posters. Get a real artist to do them. Like Drew Struzan. I can't stand photoshop book covers, let alone movie posters.

I just saw this and I seriously agree! I can't wait to see when something similar comes out in English. I'd watch this even if it were in Russian!
