X-MEN: FIRST CLASS (Casting, Rumors, Pics till release)

Marvel is sort of creating a tie-in storyline that will pit the current team against their 1960's counterparts called X-men First to Last. It appears to be similar in concept to the Avengers/Invaders series from a while back.... (or Avengers Forever) basically involving time travel or something.

Should be interesting considering all the changes the team has gone through over the years.

i was dreaming about XM:FC the other night and they put a Captain America reference in it. i thought, 'i must be dreaming, Fox wouldn't do that!'

Based on the movie team? Or the comics? Who is in the current x-men roster by the way?

I find that the X-Universe has got way too big for me to follow properly anymore. I like the concept of Utopia and what not but just seems to large and complicated with a million books. In a way I think that is why I'm looking forward to the upcoming Age of X event because it's something new.

The team in first to last it seems will be Cyclops, White Queen, Archangel, Wolverine and Iceman. So basically most of them, apart from Jean who's still dead and Beast who joined one of the Avengers teams, will be facing their original counterparts.

Yeah, the X-men is probably Marvel's most convulted (and most spin-off) series. Despite the numerous twist and turns and retcons, something like Spider-Man is easier to get into because it focuses mainly on a single character. X-men, on the other hand, is more of an ensemble, especially since the 70s when the team became really popular.

Beast is a member of the Secret Avengers right now. Yeah plus Marvel really hasn't done a very good job at promoting what the main X-Men flagship book is either. I guess it would be Uncanny X-Men since Fraction is writing it. You knew at least with "New X-Men" when Morrison was writing it that it was the main book with the main plot and alpha team in it. Same when Joss took over with "Astonishing X-Men".

Incidentally, is this the first incident of an actor in a comic strip movie having a more ridiculous name than their character?

"January Jones" is certainly a comic-book sounding name, but I think "ridiculous" is putting it too strongly. It doesn't strike me as intrinsically any more ridiculous than naming a girl April or May or June. And she was actually born in January, so it has a simple explanation.

But in terms of actors having more unusual-sounding or comic-booky names than their characters... how about Shaquille O'Neal as John Henry Irons (Steel)? Jeep Swenson as Bane (Batman & Robin)? And "Pat Hingle" sounds more like a stereotypical cop name than "James Gordon."

There are a few that run about even in terms of alliteration -- Noel Neill as Lois Lane, Rebecca Romijn(-Stamos) as Raven Darkholme, Bill Bixby as David (Bruce) Banner(though that's TV, not film).
