While Origins surprisingly happens in 1975. 1975 being the last year of Vietnam War. It seems odd Logan who was walking US streets free in 1973 would be in Vietnam with Victor in 1975.

US forces were withdrawn in 1973, though.

EDIT:

In reference to Origins, the chart reads:

"XAVIER shows up at Three Mile Island to take SILVER FOX, CYCLOPS and GAMBIT under his wing."

Anyone who actually watched the film would know that only one of those three characters went with Xavier.

That happened on many shows going into the 80s, they made the characters super secret special forces and thus could be a bit younger in the heartthrob demographic for the show's audience. The same thing happened with Korean War veterans versus WWII veterans in 70s TV.

That's the wibbly wobbly effect there. Eh 2 year continuity gaffe is the least of my complaints. Which there are few of.

BTW, did anyone else think a replay of Portal might be fun while watching the Future fight scenes?

The movie is a bit of a mess, there's some touching moments and baffling alteratons to past storylines and you can tell that Jennifer Lawrence's star has risen quite a bit. I loved Quicksilver's scenes a nd future Magneto's death was toucing. But there's no explaination for Wolverine's metal claws, the advancement of the future timeline or Kitty's ability to project people minds though time. And this movie pretty reboots the entire X-Men storytlne and no credit was given to Chris Claremount or John Byrne, but at least Claremount and Len Wein do have cameos in the movie.

None of XMO is set in 1975, despite what that graphic says. The finale of XMO takes place in 1979, and there is on-screen text earlier that says Six Years Later which places the early scenes in 1973. Not that it helps explain why Logan was sleeping with the boss' daughter in '73 instead of being sentenced to firing squad in 'Nam. Better movie takes precedent in my book. :)

I'm not sure what else to say, other than, am I the only one who caught the
Sweetmonkeyfuck, it's Cable!
?
Pure speculation on my part, but considering his hair colour, and the perfect symmetry it creates with the post-credits sequence, IMO it's just got to be!
When and who was that?

Emma Frost is in a similar situation (two different characters sharing the same name).

Technically, the one in Origins was not called Emma Frost in the film, just in promotional materials. So when First Class came out the Origins character was already being "retconned" as just "Kayla's sister Emma". Which is better because the character displays no evidence of telepathic ability.
I watched Origins again a few weeks ago, and I don't think she's ever even referred to as "Emma" in the actual movie, nevermind "Emma Frost." It's only in the end credits she's called Emma.
So you could just say it's a mutant with similar powers to Emma Frost... although Stryker does say the girls diamond powers are unique. But if Emma Frost is dead then I suppose they were.

Just got back from seeing it - LOVED it!!!!!

It was action packed, emotional, had GREAT character evolutions and arcs - gripping drama, awesome performances - Just LOVED the film!

Go see it ASAP - you'll LOVE IT too!!!!

I have to turn in my Trekkie card in because I don't know with any certainity which Star Trek episode was playing in Hank's TV room. I'm guessing "The Ultimate Computer," but it's been a long time since I've watched The Original Series.

Shame on you. It's The Naked Now, where the Enterprise is thrown back in time 3 days by a warp engine implosion created by Spock and Scotty - one of the wonkiest time travel loops ever set up on Star Trek - and I think the film-makers wink to the audience not to try too hard to work out the time travel consequences of everything because you'll just give yourself a headache.

Great review. Agreed 100%, except about the Kelsey Grammar thing. ;)

This was a big movie, with a lot of moving parts and I think they did it really really well. I date say, it's a better movie than the Avengers--possibly the only other comic book movie so many characters, parts etc.

Actually, I think it's a MUCH better movie than the Avengers... which is fun, a romp, characters cracking wise.... but, Days of Future Past? It's about something, there's great struggle--emotional AND physical, and there are some really good performances... James McAvoy, holy shit, fantastic.

Yeah, a better film than the Avengers. And a bloody good time. Will done.

btw just for the "Wolverine should have been in Vietnam at the time" thing, if you do want to count Origins as canon... I just rewatched the first 10 minutes of it or so, and there's no mention of it actually being Vietnam. I know it's supposed to be, but I guess you could just say that it was post-1973 and it was actually Cambodia or Korea maybe.

I'm really no US history expert but according to this there were still some forces in Vietnam post 73 anyway, so it could still work

It certainly wouldn't have been Korea... that ended in 1953.

Actually it was The Naked Time. The Naked Now was the TNG ep.

I know that was earlier, I was just going by the post 1973 dates in that link-
"1976 – Korea: Additional forces were sent to Korea after two American soldiers were killed by North Korean soldiers in the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea while cutting down a tree"
