X-Files Revival Officially Ordered at Fox

Good stuff. 6 episodes doesn't seem that many (not that I'd want 22, maybe 8-12 or so) but it will do.

I'm in. Despite some disappointing episodes in the later seasons overall this was a damned good series. And Mulder and Scully are among the best characters created for television and they complimented each other perfectly.

Six episodes, eh? Then I, a stranger to The X-Files (apart from a few random episodes watched in high school), will probably check it out, also.

Looking forward to seeing them play the characters again, but I can't say I have interest whatsoever in a continuation of the previous alien conspiracy storyline (not that I can even remember most of what even happened by this point).

I'd much rather they just start fresh with a completely new story.

Thirteen would be ideal, but 6 will do if that's all I can get. Netflix did a pretty good job with a 6 episode season of "The Killing" so I'm stoked.

Hopefully this leads into a blu-ray release for The X-Files.

I wouldn't hold your breath. The high-definition remasters have been done for almost two years, and Fox has been sitting on them (and quite a bit of other stuff) because its sales of television on DVD / Blu-ray have been abysmal for the past couple of years -- some shows are only being printed on-demand, and even stuff like Glee has been moved to DVD-only.

I'm ambivalent about this - the X-Files to me was of a particular era and cultural zeitgeist and I'm not quite sure how they will pull this off.

Six episodes is less than I was expecting; I figured it would be a 12-episode season, but I will take what I can get!

I am very interested to see where the characters are now. This should be interesting.

The fact that, after four seasons of blu-ray releases, the fifth season of Glee didn't get one is both a scandal and an outrage. That said, I have purchased no seasons of Glee in any format, so I guess I don't really have the right to complain...

Yeah I think if Chris Carter tries to pick up right where he left off and make the show in the exact same style as before, it's just not going to work very well. And could even risk making it feel like a parody of the original show (or just incredibly tired and outdated, like with the last movie).

I frankly wish a different showrunner was in charge of it this time around, who would be able to approach it in a fresher way.

X Files will be perfect for the "event season" type format. No filler eps. Just 6 eps of the meat. I'll bet this is a big success.

I agree. I think X-Files is the perfect universe for this type of story.

I wonder if we'll see any other cast members join the project.

I know they'll probably focus on the mythology in some way, which is great, but some of my favorite episodes were standalone "Monster Of The Week" eps. Either way, it'll be great to see Mulder and Scully (and hopefully Skinner) again.

I'm excited !

I stopped being even interested in 'genre shows' a while ago. I'm even about to bail on Gotham and Walking Dead.

I'll certainly watch X- Files though !

I guess I'm glad I watched the series last year. Now I can enjoy this 6 episode series with kind of a fresh perspective.

I guess people didn't like them for the most part, but I hope they find a way to get Doggett and Rayes into the story somehow. Yeah the focus should be on Mulder and Scully, but Doggett and Rayes were not the worst parts of Season 8-9.

:techman: Agreed. It was the writing imo that dragged those seasons down.

Moose and Squirrel could use all the help that they can get :).

I'm looking forward to seeing those two on my tv screen again.
